Ok setting this one up as the last one for a bit, then I need to take a short break from this as I will be traveling.
We still have a few hours on Doors VS Sabbath, I'll update it later, but Sabbath is dominating.
But it's Pink Floyd vs Iron Maiden - Here we go!
given the time period, 1968-1980, I feel this should be an easy one. but you frickers out there are rather unpredictable! I'm kind of against Iron Maiden even being in here at all, but they got three nomination votes so, here we are. My thought is not for the talent, or music, just more for the time period, they only got a debut self titled album to work with here, against some absolutely monumental classic albums no record collection would be complete without.
Some would argue Floyd consists of a lot of brooding depressive music, and they're not wrong! Iron Maiden on the other hand isn't exactly light and bright either. Fast and furious dual guitar attack that overwhelms the senses. Floyd were the opposite, ethereal, deep, slow very progressive epic songs, even taking up the whole side of an LP, and probably the best band of all time comes to the idea of the concept album, plenty of light and shade production telling epic stories. And, my favourite producer, Alan Parsons did his best work collaborating with PF
Again it's that oranges vs apples, but guys wanted Maiden in, so here we are!
I know a bit more about PF, than IM, never even purchased one release... but I had friends into them and they tend to be very opinionated and dedicated folks. I did try to learn one IM song, in a magazine, The Trooper.
For both these bands you could definitely NOT say either of them wrote a "dumb" songs. Both bands had good longevity too, though Floyd was damaged pretty bad (My opinion) by a falling out between major talents, I'm not even sure what it was all over.
Iron maiden still very raw in this period, without the big stage production they eventually became known for... a live IM song that makes the time period cut
And Pink Floyd - who also became renown for epic studio / stage production - seems impossible to find good live footage of Floyd as they were in the 70's - I think it might have to do with ongoing legal bickering between Waters and the rest
Anyway, LETS GO!
