Bad days?

Sometimes I have good playing days, until I plug in.

I need to practice plugged in more, even at low volume just to hear what I cant hear unplugged; strings muted or not, odd string rings on big bends or pull offs, palm muting, pinch harmonics, etc.

I have known this but do a lot of chord change / progressions , scales, picking drills, etc. unplugged; most times I just cant disappear into the basement to plug in.
I'm down on my progress lately but keep at it; I'm at about 2 1/2 years in.
 
Having bad days is part of the game, I guess. The trick is to make sure you have bad days during practice, not gigs.:)
 
I have considered a headphone amp; I may snag one if I can get a good coupon or a Stupid Deal of the Day or something.
There are several flavors of those I see, didnt know that, hmmm.

i'm afraid to try the AC30, it may force me to build a vox circuit amp.
Which then justifies the semi-hollow p90 or other Epi Casino type to get my Beatles on.
Slippery slope indeed.

I'll give you an example of a bad day that happened to me. The vocalist had the thought of trying a song in a different key so that it would transition better in the set list. In my personal practice time, I practiced the song in both keys. I was already pretty familiar with it in the original key but I worked on both, anyway.

Well, during our warm up prior to playing we decided to keep the song in the original key. As we were running through the set list during sound check, all went well.

But, as bad luck would have it, when I started playing the song for real, I brain-farted and started it in the other key...it was an awkward few seconds!
