I guess I need to pick up a new one as I had a freeking roof leak and water dripped directly on my interface . So any how it was a Focurite 2i2 I got a few years ago. But any thought on new product out that might be a game changer or just buy another 2i2?

If you were happy with it…well…no reason to change up. Scarletts seem to be pretty popular.
That said, there’s lots of stuff out there to choose from…
I like my mixer form factor, but that’s not for everyone.
Been curious about the entry level UA interfaces with the fet compressors, and the entry level SSL stuff…but I haven’t been lucky enough to have the disposable income to play around lately.
Bummer about the leak…I had a close call, years ago, when they cleared a lot just to the northeast of me…had to cap my chimney to keep the water out for certain types of storms…I caught it quickly though, and kept the damage down.

Give some new guys a try:

I have Universal Audio Volt 1 in my bedroom setup and it's quite nice. I'd really like to here these two as well.

To be honest, at this price range, they’re all the same. I used to recommend the MOTU interfaces because I used Digital Performer and was a bit of a fan boy, but my Scarlett Solo is every bit as clean as my MOTU was.

I guess I’ll just stick with what I know. I just keep hoping for that new piece of gear that makes recording, mixing, adding multiple videos and whatnot a single button endeavor.

I'm a believer in the K.I.S.S. concept. Part of why you won't find multiple switches and push pull pots on my guitars. I have a hard enough time with two tone and two volume..... the exception would be my strat. Came with the usual 5-way switch but also a push button switch that brings the bridge into play in Pos, 4 and 5 on the switch. And you can hear the difference in all 7 selections.

This is not an interface but it can be used as one. There is one locally on marketplace for less than half the new price. It’s a SSL mixer

Should have bought the submersible interface, or at least one that floats.
From now on everything I buy needs to be pressure tested.

Ah yes...the elusive "single button" dilemma.

I get customers who want the same thing. The trouble is, they still want a system that is flexible and can do different things. So, I have to figure out some way to diplomatically point out to them that the single button has no way of reading their minds to know from one time to the next what they want the button to do.

I mean, there are ways to give the impression of a single button being used. You could provide a single button and program the system so that the single button toggles through multiple options or does something different when you hold it down, etc. But, that actually becomes less intuitive and more clumsy than just providing additional buttons that are labelled appropriately and just do what what you want with a single press. Then again, you don't want to provide so many buttons that it gets cluttered and confusing to look at. There is a bit of an art to designing a functional, yet simple interface.

I realize you're just being facetious and being tongue-in-cheek with it, but that magic, single button request really does come up.

I've actually had my eye on the MOTU-M2 2x2. For me, the big draw is the MIDI input/output that it has. So, you found the MOTU to be really clean? I've heard the same thing.

Yeah, the MOTU sounds swell and has really sexy metering. I had one and loved it. I have a Focusrite now, and it’s equally good. A 2x2 interface is set and forget.

Reminds me of how one of my gigs with my 70s band got cut short because a drunk tripped over the edge of the band stand and poured a 16 ounce cup of beer straight into the vent holes on our Traynor powered mixer. Once it dried out, it still worked.
No equipment is actually "vintage," until it's had beer spilled on it.
For a while there I was talking "beer cured" speakers, and what types of beer have the best tone on the cone.
