That's horrible. Those engines are like jewels. My father-in-law had his checked out about 2 years ago, and even after over 32 years the motor is still within 98% of original factory spec. Of course, it's been maintained in a very exacting way, but that is still pretty phenomenal engineering. And the plus is that it is one of the few that made it over with a manual transmission.
I drive an F150. Gave up on GM after my 2006 Silverado just kept falling apart. Had it hauled off with 98,000 miles on it. Hard brake lines rusted through, tranny lines rusted through, 2 front hub failures, brake caliper locking up, yada etc. The only thing that didn't fail was the 530 hp 426 ci engine I put in it.
