area 51?

Much heavier thna the Affinity P bass....glossy neck and fancy bits-- GREAT fret finish ---all works -- HIGH MASS bridge w/ brass saddles (guess that ads weight)

its a nice beastie
a little long winded but a decent review.

Nice addition ! Question, what is that little block of wood with the 2 screws on the pick guard used for? I have a 60’s Harmony bass that had one originally, but that and the pick guard got lost over the years.

called a TUG bar
back in "the day" many bassists plucked with their THUMB and the tug batr was a place to GRAB for the fingers.......funny -- eh?

OFTEN times now you see them on the OPPOSITE side of the strings as a THUMB REST--- I play "floating thumb" style so dont need one either way-- looks cool

FUNNY thing I noticed at SAM ASH yesterday--

(now correct me if Im wrong) but in the lets say 90's the LOW END guitars---like my 99 Squire AFFINITY P bass..... had little IF ANY lacquer on the neck --- and the HIGH END FENDERS of the 90's had THICK lacquer........

NOW-- its REVERSE --

I played a Gibson USA JR DC Smooth "natural" finish) --Fender USA (smooth neck) an MIM Fender (smooth neck) a SQUIRE (lowest end P they had) smooth neck-- but the MID range -- Jazz Bass-- Classic Vibe "P" and the (today) 50s Classic Vibe -- ALL THICK THICK lacquer.........???
WTF?

Follow up part Deux!\

Flatwounds came in today --FENDER flats to be exact--- I was very happy with this bass PRIOR to the string change------ now---- once I scotchbrite the GLOSSY neck----- I will be in CV heaven !!!!

Nice score.
For some time I have been on the lookout: if a Squier 51 6 string crosses my path at the right (stupid low) price, it's mine.

follow up report -- its been over a week now-- the CV 50's P is -- well in a word PERFECT-- love the damn thing that one dippy little pup delivers FULL rich tone -- got flats loaded on it now and WOWSERS -- it holds its own --the neck is comfy the small guitar sized frets (actually I have guitars with MUCH bigger frets) almost give it a fretless feel-- playing it now--- loving it!

follow up to the follow up---

day 17 -- still LOVING this friggin thing --
P/J style body so -- IMMEDIATELY comfortable and familiar-- low frets are nice-- necks awesome-- the TONE - -I cant get over the TONE that STOCK single coil TELE looking pup puts out-- its on PAR with my humbucker equipped Thunderbird (almost)

well done Squire -- well done......

now -- TBTH -- had I SEEN this gem prior to buying the Squire------ Id be reviewing IT not the Squire (can ytou believe the friggin price!?)

I mean SERIOUSLY -- 103.00!?!?!?!?!?!?
