Are People on Youtube Deaf?

I find any of the reviews on youtoob to be taken as entertainment, and nothing more. Even if you can do a good job of filming and recording, the compression that occurs to create the mp4 file wipes out any really good dynamics. Then, even with good speakers, you're still listening to a squashed mp3 file with video. Good for a point of reference.
I agree completely.

Not to mention, even if you were sitting in the room with the guy live, hearing it with your own ears, you still only get 50% of the experience, because feeling how the guitar reacts in your own hands is the other 50%.

No video demo is ever going to give you that.

I think people do get preconceived ideas and it definitely affects how you hear things. People yank the electronics out of new Lps to put in hand wiring. Do the electrons really care that much what they travel over? My LPs sound great, the new ones may have the circuit boad (which most amps will have) the 76 does not.
But because it is a pc board it will sound different to some. There are people who poo poo on the Marshall Jubilee becauee it uses diode clipping as well as tube. Actually, it uses LED which is different feom regular diodes. I played mjne since 1987 and had no idea it had diode clipping till the last few years.
So suddenly, it should sound bad?
People cannot use their ears they use their presuppositions instead.

There is a lot of guitar related presunptions that aren't even close to being valid. Yet, everyone just know that they are true. I have a few pet peeves, like nuts, electronics and pickups...
One of the things that amaze and astounds me is when someone buys a new guitar, and new pickups at the same time so they can swap out the stock pickups that they haven't even heard.

I remember a thread on ST where a guy posted that he ordered a brand new Strat, and pickups, and a NECK to replace the stock parts when it arrived. My thought was "why don't you just buy a guitar you like in the first place"?

Japanese electrics are crap, we all know that.

'cept mine are still doing the business 38 years on in one case, 25 in the other. Though the switch tip fell off the Fender, right out of the box. I replaced it with a spare Tokai one and it's still there.

It's funny, because it seems that in recent years it has gone from Japanese guitars are crap, to Japanese guitars are superior to all others. I'm sure (as with most things) the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Another of my pet peeves is the "only American guitars are good" crowd.

Or the "only expensive guitars are good" crowd.

And HOLY :poo: ! Don't even get me started on the vintage guys.

Japanese guitars have always been crap, they are crap and they always will be crap.

According to those that "never buy imports". Their opinion is important to me, it lets me know which button to press. :)

Isn't this the truth! All of my guitars were bought because i liked everything about them, if i liked what i saw , heard felt that was it, I have changed nothing in them, i like each of them for what they are and they will stay that way.

I choose my used MIJ Stratocaster over the brand new American Std that hung next to it. The Std didn't even have the switch tip in the store.

It's also funny how more expensive pots sound better, despite identical resistance, and don't get me started on caps. It's also funny how nuts seem to "improve" the tone of a guitar while they in fact only affect six notes.
