I'm happy with my Squier Telecaster and HB and Epiphone Les Paul types. All under 500 quid and perfectly good guitars. The best Strat I ever owned was stolen at Christmas 95, which is why I have the black one now, it was a 1980 Tokai Springy Sound, just like this one.

Your MIJ Fender could very well be made in the Fujigen factory, right alongside the other one. Fender didn't have their own production plant in Japan, instead they used Fujigen, Dyna Gakki and Tokai Gakki. That all changed in 2015 when they (Fender) took control. Now they have sone joint venture going on.

From what I saw, his Tele was a Dyna. JD serial number. Fender only took control of what (and when it) is made and where it goes afterwards, not who makes them.

The fact that the guitar arrived in a Fujigen box made me think that may be true. I wonder, if I got another Fujigen, would it be like the Fender or as good as the Fujigen?

All guitars are individuals and there will always be variations. My experience with Fujigen is that the quality is consistently high though.

Yeah, cause who'd pay more to have "Fender" on the headstock when in fact it was made right next to the cheaper Tokai, Ibanez or FGN?

Edit: This was a semi rhetorical question and I suspect, part of the reason why Fender don't tell.

But, the Lollars sound surprisingly good. I've been unimpressed with them in the past, but they sounded good here. The video probably only compares the end sound.
 
Just watched and listened to the video from Mr Grumpy's first post through the TV and its speakers. And yes, I hear a big difference and was surprised that the Tele with the SD Stacked single coils sounded more like what I expect a twangy Tele to sound like. I thought it would have been the other way around. Now I wonder what each guitar would have sounded like with a swap on those same pickups.. :unsure:

Comments on YouTube commenters: There are morons lurking everywhere. And at certain times, I find these morons very entertaining. Makes me feel better about myself too... :giggle:
 
I find any of the reviews on youtoob to be taken as entertainment, and nothing more. Even if you can do a good job of filming and recording, the compression that occurs to create the mp4 file wipes out any really good dynamics. Then, even with good speakers, you're still listening to a squashed mp3 file with video. Good for a point of reference.
