I've been watching a bunch of blues and slide guitar videos.

The resonators look pretty cool and you can get a decent one for a reasonable amount of $$$

Someone tell me all about them...

I have two. I love the sound of them.
Ones a spider bridge the other is a biscuit bridge.
The third kind that I haven't acquired yet would be a tri cone.
I think the biscuit bridge sounds a little mellower, the spider is a little more brash.

This is the biscuit bridge resonator. Steel body Dean with piezo and mag pickups. It's a nice thin body, quite comfortable to play.
It's the sound of the old Delta.

This is the spider bridge resonator. It's a wood body Dean with piezo pickup. A little thicker than the metal one.
This one has that Dobro sound.
Both are nice playing reso's for not a lot of $$$.
I think everyone needs one or two.

Oh - just thought to look him up - he died in February 2015. That's a talrent that will be missed.

Beautiful! I really like the look of those all metal ones...

Well I been waiting for you to weigh in on this maybe you could explain the difference between spider and biscuit bridge
and maybe list a model or two that you think are decent buys for someone getting their first one.
I'll try my hand at an explanation.
The spider bridge is so called because the thingie that holds the bridge saddle & excites the cone kind of looks like a spider.
The feet all contact the edge of the cone and a little screw & spring in the middle, between the saddle halves, tunes the way the cone sounds.

As opposed to the biscuit bridge that is a wooden biscuit & saddle sitting directly on and screwed to the cone. No Spider.

This is why I think the biscuit bridge sounds a little mellower.
The spider is more metal on metal sounding.
Hope this sheds some light on reso's.

IMG_3004.JPG Resonators are very different because cause there is not one thing to compare them too. The most wore out lines in the guitar world are " for the money" and what you feel or happy with" some old hippie thing. These guitars should have a death rattle thing mixed an old Ford on its last legs. Ok I did not know what end was up when I bought one for my birthday last October. I could drop all the hints in the world and no one would ever figure this one out. I don't drive since I got sick in 1998 and in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania no one would have many to pick from even if I could get there. I looked at many on line and heard people playing them. I liked the metal body after that the price is important. It all came down to Fender because I'm mad at Grestch. I found mine on EBay for just under $500.00 with a real Fender case. Wood can't do a sick Ford but brass plated with chrome can. I love my Fender and those two hours on line paided off.
