Ha Ha! We are not stocking up on anything...I refuse to buy into this crap. I walked in the grocery today, saw the lines and turned around and walked
right back out. My wife has enough for us to last quite a while and if the zombie apocalypse comes I'll just move to the farm and kill my own food...
 
If I weren’t 65 and wanting to retire soon..... I’d be buying right now. Every time the market dropped another 1000. Buy some more.

Read something interesting years ago. An economist said.... more or less a quote..... “why is it when Walmart has a sale, you can’t keep people out of the store. When Wall Street throws a sale, you can’t keep people in the store.”
 
My instinct...immediately...yes the health concerns..but went at the money quick. It will affect everything for us..but a good thing happened..as i was being very very serious...looking at the near & next 10 year plan. Sure we were going to retire...glad we didnt..might of over housed if we purchased last year. Where we are now is humble but a labor of love. Small 1880's with 400sq ft MBR i built for J cause of no more ability to do steps.(never again..lol..my phone rings every 10 min..man up & down ladders..darn phone) Well by adding the Master..basically took our new value of house way up//separate MBR on its own zone & 1/4 mile from the very desired Elementarry school. This killer economy last 4 years..everything of ours went back to pre 2008 status & then some.

I am cash heavy vs investment heavy..cause i was waiting to see the numbers would need to carry 7 years untill 62 retirement..also the business is agreed to be sold..to bridge the gap but also my money to xtra invest

I take this very serious cause in 2008..due to stupid crap like this..lost 40% of everything had worked for. So be sitting back..crazy thing is..last year got a second wind & started hiring & expanding...maybve might go the theother way, but pay smeone who wants to do my job stupid money & just oversee & expand...what i have is easily franchisable actually..not rocket science..just Be HONEST !! humm..what a novel concept everybody cant seem to do in our industry these days(ETA lies & price jacking)

Same here. Got nothing left buy my cats and guitars. I'm only a little jaded, but still a whole lot of angry.

Sorry to hear you had such losses. I've weathered all the storms in investing including the crash in 08. I just made sure not move my high risk shares around when the price was down.

I'm not sure how you lose everything in a 401K? If you don't cash in your shares they eventually rebound, no? Unless a company goes completely bust the shares are still worth something.
Mutual funds also diversify the investments so there is less chance of complete failure.

I have to disagree that it's gambling. It's more of knowing how the market works and using it to your advantage. When I get close to retirement I'll move my money to a very low to almost
no risk fund. With my company that is the "G" Fund. It has slow steady growth and almost never takes a loss...
 
2008..lost the career..everything..went got 3 jobs waiting tables. to barely support the family..after years of salary & commission and a great job.
The plus now..never will cut the hair ever again not for nobody..

was taught no matter what is going on.. by my dad & both grandfathers..work your way out of it..no matter what...keep working. I don't think money has anything to do with anything.
.but ya character does..during the good & bad..who are ya? really...cant stand the quitters & the complainers...i would never wanna show that to my kids,,,teach them what...blame everybody else for everything...

..my only requirement for hiring..i just beg for a man to look me in the eyes & say He wants to support His family...hired..lets go....
 
I was taught the same thing by my Great Grand Father! Don't whine, get off your a$$ and do something about the situation.

I can't stand the whiners and complainers that think the world owes them a living or anything else for that matter! Once
you become an adult nobody owes you a thing! I taught my kids that and I try and teach it to my grandkids as well!

I pumped gas, worked construction and many other jobs since I was 14. Before that I had a paper route. I joined the
USAF when I was 19 and served 26 years. At times I worked a second job so we could have nice things.

I started my next job while I was on my 60 days retirement leave from the USAF. I have never stopped working since
1974. I have 6 more years with US Customs and I hope to retire for good and work at having fun...

I dropped half my G Fund into the S Fund. If the market goes down a significant amount I'll drop the other half.
 
if anything..its getting heated lately....amongst all us,,,we are in this together..we really are..."it"..."they"..."them" are coming after our normalcy

today..counted 43 people am responsible for with my techs & there family's...work just completely cut in half in 1 day...in half!! ..as soon as them schools closed yesterday in PA.. we were laying down record weeks & months..expanding even...

the traffic..the phone activatety is slowly dwindling down..

have to keep calm...be smart...health first...this one is gonna sting again..to what extent not sure..but our world & public gathering just changed ..just like that....
