Anyone here play a Gretsch?

Have you ever played a guitar with one of the conversion necks? I'm curious to know about the results.

I have installed them for people. I loved how it changed the tone. But, it was a very narrow version and that made it tough for me to do a full comparison.

So, I just caught this line.

Did you leave Fender? When did that happen?

I'll send a DM

When you say, "very narrow," are you saying it was narrower than a stock Fender neck?

Yes.

A 'Stock Fender Neck' doesn't really exist. There's no standardization with Fender because of so many vendor changes.

I've seen some old Fenders with 40mm neck widths at the nut.

Warmoth will build the conversion neck up to 1-11/16", IIRC.

I will miss this aspect of my job....minimizing the proliferation of Chinese goods under the guise of a longstanding American company.

A young guy at the park this year stopped by my lot , seen me playing my Gretsch Jet 5220, said he would be back in a few minutes to see me. He came back 15 minutes later with a Gibson 59 remake, so we sat down and discussed guitars, heplays in a Band and was going to be playing in an outside gig the next night.

Anyway he liked the Gretsch, asked if he could give it a go, of course i said sure! He played it and really liked it! now i said take a good look at the quality of build, when he started checking it over, he noticed it was made in China. He couldn't believe the quality and the playability of the guitar was from a Chinese Manufacturer. I rest my case this is a keeper guitar..

Lots of scale length issues with Gretsch. Here's how we "fixed" the problem...

Most wont accurately intonate, but the written evaluation standard for Fender/Gretsch intonation is + or - 5 cents, so a lot of guitars were allowed to pass, even with misplaced bridges....

Trash can at my workstation. This is one day's worth of string changes, fixing either broken or strings that did not intonate.
