Earl Ross, only Canadian to win NASCAR 'Cup' race, dies
SEPTEMBER 18, 2014
The win was the push needed for Ross, who could only afford to run a partial schedule, to win the NASCAR Rookie of the Year award that year. In his NASCAR Winston Cup career, he had the one win, five top-five finishes and 10 top tens in 26 race.

His car was owned by Junior Johnson, and sponsored by Carling O'keefe Breweries. This guy was one heck of a racer, he cleaned up on Canadian circuit, He was up there with the big boys and he was winning and close in many of the races. Then all of a sudden Carling dropped there sponsorship. There was lots of talk around like why did they pull the plug on him? well its history now. He came back to Canada, went back to short track Coca Cola sponsored him, many companies wanted on board with him behind the wheel. He won many many races then after 4 years of racing retired. I worked for a GM dealership where his car was on display in their showroom for one week. He had an S3 Laguna that was hopped up and an ambulance brought with him for display as well. Earl came from a small town of Ailsa Craig about an hours drive from where i live. I had spoken with him one time , he was a great guy polite, easy going, friendly guy. We drive through his home town on occasion on our way to our summer home. He passed away a few years ago, he is definitely missed . I think he was 71 or 73, still to young to be gone.

RIP Earl.

So --- judging from the clogged roadways in Florida .....with CANADIAN TAG VEHICLES IN THE LEFT LANE DOING 5 mph UNDER THE LIMIT (EH) what your saying Norm ---is
ONE ................................JUST ONE CANUCK knew how to drive and now hes dead............................great!!!!! There is NO HOPE for improvement................................

Martinsville Speedway on September 29, 1974 during the Old Dominion 500. After qualifying 11th, Ross beat Buddy Baker to the line by more than a lap, thus making him the first and still the only Canadian to have ever won a Winston Cup event. Ron Fellows however has wins in the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. At that time, Earl was the first rookie to win a Grand National race since Richard Petty accomplished the feat several years earlier.
