Anyone Copyright Their Originals

Sharing ones original music has been on my heart a long time.

Do you copyright, don't care to, or its all just for fun......
No wrong answers, whether for fun or maybe future income...

Those that are writing, you know how much time and work one puts into a song with hopes of maybe
some day bringing in income from that labor.

Does anyone copyright their songs..
Even the poor mans copyright, where one mails it to themselves and then don't open it.
I've heard this doesn't hold up, yet its something.
I think Legal Zoom has some avenues towards this.

I haven't made anything complete enough to bother copy writing at this point. Plus, I wouldn't know how if I did.

As to why I do it? Not really sure. I started performing in school band and various choir activities towards the end of grade school and continued into college. I always wanted to be in a rock band, but it never materialized. I guess I am just trying to fulfill my dreams by doing it all myself with the fantastic technology that is available to us now.

But hey, if anyone wants to move to Minneapolis and start a rock band let me know.

I mailed them to myself. I believe I sent one through proper channels, but this was decades ago. LOL

Mine have copy rights done on them and listed with BMI. I spent a fair deal of time on the ones done this way, so I wanted to protect them.

I do know from decades ago, its better to do each song separately than as a group.
If done as a group of songs, one wants to sell someone one song, but because they were copyrighted as a group, they would get the whole group.

Thing is you never know, so why not cover your butt. All it'd take is one named artist to go hey, I like that, type thing - and it does happen.

takes about 5 months to get here after filing..in this day & age of no creativity on the radio & sample everything..who knows..

my buddy tries to hire me to his studio...can pay 100 to organize a bands songs...kinda insults me..why cant ya make your own stuff

I think its smart to take ownership of what one creates.

got $300 for guitar work on a local modern country band.....had to sign all these waivers & disclaimers..that was payment in full for the session, no future claims & no public admission of playing..lmao...
the 78 Paul & plexi for leads. They on the radio in North East..some rotation on the country stations. One guy i know owns studio was co writer of a huge kenny Rodgers hit..his royalties came in for 25 years...started out in thousands a month until it dwindled down to pennies..but he got over 300,000
