Anybody Tried Seymour Duncan Antiquity Pickups?

Mail order guitars are like a mail order bride they may look good on the outside but what's on the inside that counts.
I wanted a ES335 I played over 100 of them before I found the one.
My friend Scott got a DT SG and My friend Mark did also I got one to I got the tone turd out of the bunch I put real PAF pickups in it
It sucks to this day. I wish I was tone deaf sometimes.

You are right, but...

I went out to buy an SG standard, but came home with a junior because it played and sounded so good. Perfect, no modifications required.

The Special (see picture left) is a limited edition sexy beast which I couldn't play beforehand, and is very nearly a great guitar. Can I mod it into a great guitar? My experience suggests not, but my changes so far have made big improvements - I just want a bit more bite and snarl and sensitivity to attack from the pickups.

Luckily, I am tone deaf and a crap player, so I'm easily pleased! :)

I have a set of the Ants. Very vintagey character - open and fairly chimey, with sweet voicelike mids, not too "dry" sounding but not syrupy either. Extremely dynamic and touch-responsive. Also very sensitive to small height adjustments. They're in a PRS Custom22 right now, but I want my 59/09 in that one. I think I might drop them into one of my Les Pauls instead.

Also have an Antiquity Surfer bridge pickup for Strat. It has a hair more output than a stock vintage one (I always felt bridge position was the Strat's weak point unless you're using mid boosted drive of some sort, either amp or pedal) but despite a bit of extra muscle it's pure Strat tone. And it balances better with vintage-output middle & neck. pickups I like it a lot.

I have a memory lapse at times Sysco:D

Funnily enough, being a Britisher, I always look at Bare Knuckle pickups first, but... well... I haven't tried many, but haven't been blown away either. I'm sure there are many great ones that I haven't tried though. I thought about getting a set of Mules a few times, but wasn't overly impressed with the sounds I wanted. I think/reckon/guess that the SD Antiquites should be exactly the sound I like, and thus could become my goto for P90s/humbuckers in SGs (I do like Gibson humbuckers too...).
