Anybody Ever Notice This?????

Hard to make out anything in those pics, but it looks like only 2 knobs. Cant make out the pickups, is there only one?

I agree with DirtySteve about the hard-to-see pics. But, it almost looks like it has just one pickup - a P-90 in the bridge.

I've seen him with so many oddballs in different pics. This doesn't appear to be one of them, but I suspect Ted McCarty would have made him anything he wanted to experiment with back then in the glory days.

Thats pretty unique. Never saw a Custom with only 2 knobs. Seems even weirder that its 2 p-90s and only 2 knobs. Thats essentially Telecaster wiring isnt it?

Very cool. I wonder if Gibson let regular people order custom Customs back in the day? Remember when you could order a car from the factory and pretty much go through the book and pick out every little detail? Completely gone by the end of the seventies. We flew out to Lansing MI and picked up a 78 Olds that my dad ordered. It was pretty cool for a twelve year old.

I love the "log" on the table. ;)

and the LISTERINE commercial ...........................wow

I'm not sure the guitar in the still shots and the guitar in the video in the OP are the same instrument.

Check out these captures I made from the video:

While there is too much motion blur to really make out the knobs, this guitar has what looks like a Maestro-type tailpiece in the first pic. Les Paul is in the process of picking up the guitar in this shot, so there is some motion blur, but you can also make out a long bar extending from the tailpiece, just over the corner of the pickguard.

In the second still image, the bar is much clearer. It has a curve to it and extends from the tailpiece itself to just over the corner of the pickguard, as in the first pic. There are other close-up shots in the video where this bar is apparent.

I've looked for other images of this guitar and can't find them.

However, here is another video with another guitar. In this video, it is unmistakably clear. The guitar has two pickups, but only two knobs, AND the guitar output jack is on the face of the guitar, not on the side.
