I promised a thread for this guitar that I picked up used at Canada’s biggest music retailer, Long and McQuade. I believe that it was likely a trade in but it was in perfect condition and almost 50% off the retail price.
For those who chimed in on my Three Humbucker thread, you’ll already know that modifications were the intent of this purchase. I have lusted after an HH hardtail Strat for some time now and when this presented itself, I couldn’t resist. I did go a different direction with the pickup mods, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
I have installed a pair of roller string trees, replacing the seized ones that were on the guitar when I took possession. I have also replaced the saddles with some Graphtech ones that I had in my parts drawers. I know these are really not needed on a hardtail, but “what the hell”!
Ok, now for the pickups. The stock bridge has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan JB. The guitar came stock with a push/pull pot for coil splitting this pickup. I have retained that function. The neck has been replaced with a single coil sized Lil ‘59 humbucker. I originally had planned to install a single coil sized Red Devil humbucker in the middle position, but have opted for a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound instead, for the time being. We’ll see how this works out in a mix with the band.
