is quickly leaving and a new year is approaching. So I just dropped a couple of guitars off to my Luthier, they are playing very well, but once a year like to give them the once over. I change my own strings but I don't touch anything else, well don't get me wrong I clean them and look after them like I would with all my gear . I leave it to the guy who knows. They will be ready Friday, so when I pick them up, I will leave another one with him. He just keeps them setup just the way I like. They play well throughout the year and he tells me he has to barely do anything to them. One of the things I do when changing strings is I do one at a time. Keeps tension on the neck which I believe helps slightly. In five years practicing 2 hours or more daily and doing some gigs, I have had only one broken string in that time, and the only reason it broke was because of my fault not paying enough attention while tuning. My buddies say my guitars always play so nice, I say its because of Rick, But I tell them I have to thank Godin as well for making such beautiful guitars.
 
That piece of mind is certainly worth it if you dont want to tech.
That said, you shouldn't have to do much except maybe truss rod adjustments and checking for loose screws / hardware, etc. especially strap button screws.
I see nothing wrong with changing 1 string at a time, but I like to clean fretboard, headstock, hardware, and under / around hardware / pickups unimpeded by strings.

I think it is great you can get 2 hours in every day!
 
I do understand the one string at a time. Makes total sense. However. I strip them all off. Do a complete cleaning of body and neck. Especially my acoustic. And at least once a year a tad of oil on its ebony fret board.
 
try some air guitar with the guitar and no strings if you do take them all off.
It is a really weird in a trippy, hybrid, fools the senses kind of way.

That reminds me. Time to change strings on my air guitar. Sounding a bit flat.

Thanks jtcnj, yes I am fortunate to get that much time on the axes. Now that I'm retired I have the time to be able to do it. The one thing is now that I am retired, I wonder how I ever found the time to work. I keep busy doing things I like to do and pretty much at my own pace. And now I only have one Boss LOL!:wink::)
