Headache
Ambassador of all that is Heavy
The neverending rabbit hole of speaker tones........
Today I was plugging a few amps in and out of the 3 cabinets I have over here, comparing, tinkering, I even recorded a few bytes.
I had recently bought and installed 2 Eminence DV 77 Divinity speakers (after much internet hype, and many hours of YouTube videos I knew I had to try them)
I pulled two Celestion G12 T-75's out of my 1960a cab to install the new Eminence speakers.. I was loving the new tones....until today that is.
I recorded all 3 cabs using my JVM and my favorite cab sounded a bit honky...even hollow....
As I really listened and listened and plugged and unplugged, I decided the V30-Divinity combination may share some frequencies and ended up phasing each other a little? . . . I am taking my new replacement 2x12 cab over to rehearsal space tomorrow or The next day, so I needed to make sure what I had going on here was right.... I felt it wasn't.
So I slapped in an old Warrior cassette tape and went to work. I pulled the 75s out of my new 2x12.
Then I pulled the new Divinity speakers back out of my 1960a cab and put the T75s back into it.
I then, put the Divinity speakers into my 2x12 to take over to play along with my Mode Four.
It is much easier to tweak an amps eq to fit a homogeneous cabinet I think.
Mission complete, it took me 45 minutes and man! does my favorite cabinet sound near perfect again!
I'm pleased I went ahead and swapped them, I knew it would be bugging me if I had just left them in there.
I think alone the Divinity is amazing, it just didn't mix as well as I first thought with the V30s.
Thanks for letting me share
