ANOTHER ONE: Epiphone SG G400 Black Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Set
What is a JB humbucker bridge pickup? As opposed to the jazz one at neck?
(Seymour Duncan)
The Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz pickups are a very common pickup combination for hair metal type of stuff. I have that set in my Jackson. Personally, I think they tend to be a little on the bright side. They can be useful for other sounds, though.
The JB is a relatively high-gain pickup. The Jazz is a lower gain pickup. Typically, you'll want a pickup in the neck that has lower output than the bridge because there is more string movement over the neck pickup. A lower output pickup there helps to balance things out.
When you find the pick ups too bright Smitty there are two screws that adjust the height of the pick up. People forget this and say either their pick ups are too bright or too muddy...height adjustment is the key and it's simple to do.

DOH. What's a Bigsby? You mean the guitar in my avatar?
That’s my Les Paul Custom with a Bigsby.
Oh, you guys are great !! I don't like bright. If I did I'd have another strat, right? Gonna take my Gretsch and go home. Hmph.Oh, I've played around plenty with the pickup height!
Actually, the brightness tends to be a somewhat common observation from people.
I ended up putting in a 250k ohm volume pot, which helped with the brightness.

I am interested in blues, blues/rock, rock, and rockabilly. Pickup suggestions?
ANY suggestions. Oh, and I want to play slide. Bonnie is my hero. She got even better clean and sober. Whoduthunk?

Does pickup height have anything to do with string height when playing slide? Or just 2 diff animals?
Yup, that's the one!
Except I used a Vibramate kit when I installed mine so I didn't have to put any screw holes in my guitar.
My brain hurts. Serves me right for asking too many questions and failing physics. In my defense, they put me in calculus based physics and I hadn't had calculus yet !! Failed that, too. There were no numbers !! Kind of like this. Did ya'll watch that fret/neck video I put up? I will just have to repeat this to myself many times with guitar in hand. They're two different things. Pickup height refers to how high the pickup is. Another way to think about it is how close the pickup is to the strings. String height refers to how high the strings are above the fretboard.
