In another thread, dedicated to a search for the right Marshall sounding pedal, eSGEe, suggested that I give up the search for a Marshall sounding pedal, and just buy a Marshall amp instead. So I guess I have him to blame then.

Quite a while back, I was looking for a combo amp and Robert Herndon did his absolute best to try to convince me to get a Marshall DSL40C, like he has been using. He did a valiant job, I must admit. While on the quest for one, I stumbled across a Traynor YCV40 1x12 combo in need of a little bit of TLC. It was only $275CDN and came complete with the channel/boost footswitch and a cover. It had a hole in the grille cloth off center from the speaker cone and the standby switch did not work (amp always on). I bought that amp and replaced the grille cloth with some black Mesa grille cloth that I was able to source. I was convinced by you fine folks that the standby switch was not a big deal and, after having a look at it and finding out it's a special PCB mounted switch, left it as-is. I have been playing it happily up until now and it has been no trouble and has worked flawlessly.

Here is where the trouble starts! :D I guess I am fickle and never completely happy with what I have. Maybe I am trying to use gear to cover for my lack of musical skills (most likely!). Regardless, I have always been searching for that "Marshall" sound, knowing that my amp choice also has to sound good clean and with time based effects to be able to cover a lot of musical ground due to my wildly varied interests.

SO I had some cash in the "Guitar gear" fund from the sale of a MIJ Strat I had. On the weekend a Marshall DSL40C came up for sale locally at a reasonable price. Not great, but not bad. The amp is like brand new, has just been re-tubed and re-biased, has the channel/reverb footswitch and a D2F padded cover.

Guess what? I had no choice! I couldn't, in good conscience, turn my back on the little fella! After all, he needed a new home!

I haven't had a lot of play time with it yet, but I have checked it out and it has had the near infamous C19 cap mod done to it to tame the treble in the Red channel. I have been PM'ing Robert and have been getting suggestions and advice. So far I really like it.

You know what?...…………………………...It has "THE" Marshall sound!!!!!!!!!!! :pound-hand:

$275 Canadian, you stole that thing, imo.

I have the older model DSL 40 combo, does a lot of different tones, with just the channel switching and volume control on the guitar.

Very versatile. I love the green channel with the gain almost maxed and control from the guitar, that channel loves my Strat.

Have fun, there's a lot of tones to chase! Congratulations.

Cool deal on the Marshall amp grab - congrats...

Wow on that price, these things go for 400-600 from what i have seen

Awesome buy Ninja

Keep up with the weight training these are 50lbs i have noted, jam nights will be also known as upper arm body building nights too
So to be clear, I bought the Traynor for $275, not the Marshall! That was about a year ago or so.
I paid much more than that for Marshall.

The up side is that I should be able to recoup a bunch from the sale of the Traynor. They are selling for around $450-500 on the used market right now.
