Another Lester, my first Norlin

The chainsaw/protector should be the correct original case for that year.

My '79 Custom came with a Gen 1 protector. I hated it (I've always hated them, at least for Customs, as the headstock literally touched the end of the case when the guitar was in it) and sold if for a decent profit, then bought a nice NOS white TKL that was a limited edition from 2010.

Researching this model on the internet was what made me think the case wasn't stock, but we all know about "internet facts" so you may well be right. The case does fit it like a glove & keeps it very stable & well protected, though I can see where a Custom's headstock would be a tight fit

I've just changed the strings this morning & fitted a couple of Faber stud shims to the tailpiece studs so as to raise the tailpiece a little but still have it screwed right down as though decked WP_20180707_002.jpg
One thing with this guitar, though fitted with the proper, wire retainer ABR-1 bridge, it has Nashville type inserts & posts, though the posts are the smaller ABR-1 diameter WP_20180707_003.jpg
I like the thin neck binding

Ok, I'll quickly intonate (as I changed from the D'Addario's that were on it to EB's) then go & move some air with it.
Cheers
Edit; Most all my guitars are fitted with strap locks, but I don't really want to do that to this. Best pick up some Grolsch on the way. Cheers

Glad you're enjoying it. I have it's younger brother stamped December 3rd 1981. The chainsaw cases below are what I researched when i bought The SG earlier this year. A first gen case is on the left and a second/third gen is on the right. Notice the size and latch differences.

Cool, hope yours plays as well & sounds as good as this does. You hear Norlins get some negative rap's but I am totally impressed & a convert.
Thanks for the info on the cases, mine is like the one on the right. Has a brown lining, not sure if that makes it a 2nd or 3rd gen.
We've just pulled up at the bottle shop now to buy some some strap locks & collect our free beer. Mmmm, beer. Cheers

I don't know much about what the colors tell us. Mine is blue inside.

Ok, I bought a neck Shawbucker off the bay which arrived today. Out with the neck pickup that was in it, cover off it & onto the new one to keep it looking the same, then into the guitar with it. Lead is perfect length.WP_20180720_004.jpg
I didn't have time to set the height, just set it roughly to the same height the old one was at. As its night I couldn't really try it at volume, so I just gave it a quick whirl through my Champ type amp with its volume around 3. Man it sounds good. Playing around with the Sweet Child O Mine intro & fills, its got that rich sweet tone in spades. Really looking forward to playing it at volume tomorrow & getting the height set up properly. Good to have it back to stock specs too. Cheers
