Another Damn Canuck enters

Welcome @TVvoodoo . This place was started due to very similar circumstances. Most of the founding members of The Tone Rooms met on another forum where we published years of information and pictures. That site was sold, the new owner "updated" the software and trashed years of work provided many members, mods and former admin. This did not sit well with most of us so we did the only thing we could do... Make a new home for us. This site does not do ANY data mining. We DO NOT sell any of your information. We have a very small advertisement on the site to help pay the bills that keep this place running.

Please don't be intimidated by the name The Tone Rooms. We have members at all stages of expertise here and all egos are checked in at the door. From people just learning to play to gigging members,, recording members and published members. This is a friendly forum where many of us consider each other to be family. We do love pictures of gear, information about gear, how-to posts and pretty much everything to do with music... Listening to music, playing music, creating music. We DO NOT like bad behavior here. People that don't respect other members are escorted to the door to gather their egos and be on their way. I hope you find our home to be a happy place to meet new friends, find old friends and join the family we call TTR.
Funny story, I was just invited to join here by brother Sp8ctre whom I met over on MLP. So I come over here to sign up, and find out my account was already registered.
Probably/maybe by me years ago? You see, I am a member of a LOT of forums, too many to follow regularly, because i actually do play some guitar :dood: or try to.
Never made a dime playing music, probably never will, but I still get many rewards from hitting that perfect note on a step and a half bend!

Anyway, I am a bit intimidated because in a place called The Tone Rooms, well, I imagine my comparative tone experience/journey is seriously lacking in as a non-pro player.
Enough guitars, not enough amps is probably my story. But fully glad to be here, I hear mention of this forum a lot by guitar community people I respect.

One thing here I would like to relay, and I believe this is VERY important to guitar community people, so please heed what I say, a little story about the past few days that SHOOK MY WORLD.

Over the past few days, my favourite/home guitar community snap-announced they were moving members and content to another platform. Told us all to download the "MOMO Boards" app to continue our accounts. A smallish community of perhaps 10,000 historic members, but maybe a few hundred active posters, still thousands of non-active member visits every day.

Even the mods were blindsided by this. Turns out, the owner of the forum either sold us (and years and years of forum history, content, and all our passwords, e-mails, full names etc) or was given an equity stake or whatever in what is effectively a data-mining company masquerading as a message board entity. The mobile app, as one person put it, gave MOMO more control over your phone than you as the owner would have. To some offshore based company with an office in Sanfran, that specializes in two things: again, data-mining, and Artificial Intelligence... use your imagination. A number of us signed onto it anyway via desktop with dummy accounts for some recon. The interface was terrible, seemed only half-developed. They just needed members probably to show stockholders, with no mind paid towards functionality.

There was a mass outpouring of shock, grief, anger and for the past few days many of our brothers frantically trying to preserve our forum history (I believe 15 years worth) and warn the others. This, while fighting off the new owners trying to hide what they were doing, and block us from getting the word out. Meanwhile others got active in building the shell of a new home for us all, which by tonight is closing in on 200 of the brethren and in rather quick time is up and operating with decent functionality. Really kind of a small miracle. But every board has members from all walks of life and experience in so many things, right?

Definitely not here in The Tone Rooms, but imagine if tomorrow this happened to say, perhaps your OTHER favourite guitar forum. What would do? If you post a lot of content and refer back to it, or have a deep, deep of history here worth preserving as many communities do, this should of concern. The owner of the forum previous used to post once in awhile as a "bro" and that he was a guitar player, maybe so. The new "administrator" also posted he is a fellow guitar player as well, citing "Dave Gilmore" as one of his main influences. We were fooled by the first guy, (who happened to live in France, and owns a large portfolio of websites), but not the new guy. They both tried to dupe us about how much they care about guitars and guitar communities, and the people involved.

The moral of the story is... these communities, all of them, are a commodity. Always have been, but I believe ready-built groups of eyeballs and content and information are becoming even more and more important for the data-mining and programmatic ad-serving world. This means everyone should be mindful of that, and things can change extremely quickly if an owner is romanced into making a move which members have no control over.

I personally lost a "workshop" thread with had ten years of guitar refinishes, amp mods, much of my diary of personal family life, and beginnings and growth of a guitar-related business all documented by myself.
1,500 posts, 270,000 views. An 80 page long thread. Heartbreaking, it no longer exists on the web, but I do have a PDF copy... but you know, just not quite the same, right? It's not out there, who cares?

Not saying this would, or could happen here. But I already know many of you belong to other forums, or groups of forums and I just thought it proper to explain and detail this happening for other online guitar community lovers.

Enough of that. Glad to be here, I hope to visit regular, and get to know some of you. If you know me from other places and your handle is different here, please let me know!

Cheers! - Brad

oh, and here's my main gat, 'cause I know pics are important!

Welcome, Brad!
One of the 2 other forums I frequent is the one you mention, though this one is my home.
I mentioned TTR over there a few times as it imploded.
Talk about having the rug pulled out.

Love the strap you made me.
It is on one of my most oft played guitars.

I figure you did not want to introduce yourself here and then mention "by the way, I make some really nice guitar straps, look here", as it might come across as the sales pitch being an ulterior motive for being here.

So, let me say it - Brad owns the Reverb store Well-Hung Guitar Accessories:

I only know him from my 5+ years on the other forum and have no stake here, other than promoting him because everything I have ever seen or read indicates he is a stand up guy.
And he makes some seriously awesome custom, hand made products as well.

Again, Welcome Aboard Brad!!

Indeed some beautiful straps. I like the name too. Looks like Brad will fit in here just fine.

Did I forget to mention that? LOL! No really, you are exactly right, it's indeed what I do, I'm not shy, but I don't have to be a dick about it, right? Well-Hung is happily getting to the point where quality and trusted "Endorserments" like yours are doing a bit of heavy lifting for me. I did have a real job selling cars (didn't like it much), but was laid off in late March due to Wuhan Flu. Got new signals last week, probably not a temporary thing so, that's my sitch right now, 100% strappin'. Wife thinks I'm a nutcase, (who's doesn't?) and it's all very fuctacular, but I'm dealing with it. All I'm gonna add is I don't have a factory or employees and use my own two hands. BIG STRAP regularly "borrows" my design ideas, and they most likely want to take me out back and beat me up. This, because i expose them for: fake or poor-ass leather, selling discomfort and discouraging novice players, cheaping it out on padding, absolutely bogus claims of "hand-tooling" or even "hand-crafting" and making straps four inches too-short as regular standard evil industry practices. Yeah, they probably don't like me much. :p

But let's get back to community and guitars! Because, I am a guitar fella, an amatuer singer/songwriter, externaly aging rock 'n roller, guitar lover/ modder/appreciator.
Glad to be here, had a look around, the vibe here is homey, feeling comfortable -because of the warm welcome. So, to celebrate, why not another guitar pic?

Got a little cray here, dremelled the hell out of this one

Well - that's really pretty cool!

Hope the strapmaking does well for you. To be able to make a living on something you craft and sell yourself - that's living the dream, man!

I've got an old unused ammo belt (you know, like, chaingun style) that I've always wanted to attach to a strap....I think it would be pretty metal lol

Ever done one like that before?

Show me a pic? I have crafted all kinds of crazy things, but do keep job #1 comfort and practicality. Have all kinds of leather in stock. I would detail project here if you wish.
That would be fun! Ammo not included, unfortunately.

I'll have to grab a better picture when I'm at the jamroom next, but here you can kinda see the belt draped over the large wooden finger like 'hair'....I always wanted to make a guitar strap with it, but for years it's just being hanging around as decor

I expect it would make for a heavy strap, but I'm still a "strapping" young lad...not too worried about weight at this point in time in my life

Yeah, if you were to fill that up, that would be serious lead! you could use it as a weapon, no firing pin required!

I can totally do that into a strap. I made a strap years ago with fake ammo in it, sourced some empty 30-30 brass and made fake wooden bullets to fit in it. There were only five or six ammo slots in the front though. Strap still got held up in customes for an extra week. If I recall correctly it was a "Firefly" themed strap, like some kind of Sci-Fi space show the owner was into, but they used real bullets still. That was maybe seven or eight years ago.

Thats a mighty impressive phallus you have there. ;) So you totally deserve to be Well-Hung

Err, well.....they were never used....meaning they are full, and live...and it is heavy lol

Not sure how one would go about transportation across borders, now that I think about it especially if customs tripped out about some spent 30.30 rounds...

I will continue to think on it. It's something I have wanted to do with it for a long time. In the world we live in presently, I would not be terribly surprised to run into certain challenges on the way.

Regarding the phallus (lol), we have a member called @LRT here, and his dad carved it from a stump in his yard, and modeled it after his own middle finger. One day, he brought it to the jamroom, and the finger has since become something of a mascot to us lol

You know what, I honestly bet there would be a market on like etsy, for giant wooden living room phallus sculptures if there isn't already.
I'd go look but you know, my search history is already incriminating enough already.

For something that size? I'd start at $400 plus shipping. The real fun is in the oil and all the hand-rubbing

This is actually an excellent idea.

What will my mother say when she finds out what I'm doing, though?
