Another another Tele build (sorry Ramo)

This applies more to Gibson 3way- 4 knob wiring but Ive heard of folks using a 250k in the bridge and a 500k in the neck. The logic behind this is to compromise with the p90 since its in the middle of a standard single coil and a humbucker. Basically, with a 250k in the bridge you are using a warmer sounding pot and in the neck a 500k will brighten it up some. Some go completely backwards on this conversely though.

But in your case you gotta settle for one main volume pot on the tele style wiring. So a 250k will sound better in the bridge than on the neck. But a 500k will choke the bridge some. So you are 6 of one, half a dozen of the other lol

There's also the 2nd compromise of 300k pots which are right in the middle?
Right, 300k

As y'all can tell. I sometimes suffer from lack of ambition. This project has drug out way longer than was planned. But I'm getting there. About done with the clear. Several coats of TruOil. May get a few more before I'm satisfied with results. But I'm almost to the wiring and assembly stage. I may be playing this thing before winter is over. And frankly, it about flippin' time. And I only blame myself. Here a few updated photos.

I like that look , personally on a body that’s cut like that I would prefer no pickgaurd or a half pickgaurd.

That gold hardware looks familiar Fitz, I have to get back to my Tele but first take care of Strat.
I wasn't going to call you out, but when I was clipping that old pics of those tele rails, I wondered if I would see them again somewhere.... :rolf:

I've done a lot of Tru-oil finishing, but never over paint. That looks really good, man. :yesway:

@johnnygoo raised the same question. Bit worried now. Dummy me hadn’t considered that. Crossing fingers.
Can you just get a shorter cover for it like the neck pickup? I don't have any experience with dogear P90s so I don't know how they actually mount, I've only ever had soapbars.

Wasn’t sure how putting oil over water based stain was going to work… just decided to go for it. It did seem to work out just fine.
I've used water based stain and dyes under tru-oil with no problems. I just assumed that was paint because I've never seen colored stain like that and it didn't look like dye to me. I guess you probably said before what it was, but I didn't read everything before I posted.

Actually, I don’t think I ever specified what stain I was using. It did take at least two coats of stain to get the shade of green I was going for.

As a former automotive spray painter, I see no reason as to why tru oil can't be used over a water-based tint. Give it a go, mate!
Already did Alex. And as you suggest…. It’s working fine. And looking pretty good. Did my best to take a good photo… but as we’ve all seen here in TTR. Seeing in person is almost always better than a photo.

Yep. I’m a pretty mild strummer. No windmill like Pete. :pound-hand:

But that is a good observation.
I would have to turn it sideways, I'd only be able to play the neck or middle position for a few seconds at a time because I'd keep hitting it back to the bridge pickup. :rolf:
