Angled/Compensated Trem Claw:

Okay, I tried this and it sounded pretty good, but I really couldn't get a definitive answer as A/B swap took too long.

I went back to this and I decided to just try dampening the springs by putting a polishing cloth in there wedged between me and the guitar and then letting it drop out.

Call me crazy, but I swear I could hear a difference. There was spring resonance without the cloth dampening.

Well...I guess I there is a string change coming up for my Jackson and my Stratocaster!

BTW, how you like that SRV 110 block?
I like the block. It wasn't very expensive. I can't remember the name of the company, but they are out of Cali and I got it on Reverb. That guitar is pretty heavily modified at this point. The stock body has been refinished. The output jack plate, trem claw, screws, springs and whammy bar top plate are the only remaining Fender pieces.

I just order the no-noise springs from Floyd Rose.

$16.99/set of 3

Black - Standard

Green - Light

Red - Heavy

But the shrink wrap will work too!!!!

I had just never thought about any of this until reading this thread. I took my pick before I added the shrink wrap and tapped it on the springs and sure enough, right into the pickups to the amp. It still does this with the shrink wrap, but it is seriously deadened. I'm guessing this is what the deal is with the heavy brass blocks as well. They won't transfer the spring tone as much as a steel block will.
