I figured Great White *might* be better known in the US, I don't think they ever really got big elsewhere. Always loved that song with the catchy chorus, honestly. Great piano/guitar mix on that track, too.

This would be a case of the inverse; it's by a band who were big in Europe (UK, Germany, Benelux, etc) but never really 'broke through' in the US for whatever reason.

Not sure what the 'rules' are here but I like the idea of the 'optional spoiler'. Means people can play long after the answer is given. Should I give it another few days?

I think I nearly blew my parent's stereo up playing the 45 to death. Also have a live album of theirs. Not an early one. Them as "old men" still out playing.

I thought Down Down and maybe In The Army Now did OK? I may be mixing things up with the Australian charts, though. Rick Parfitt was one the main reasons I came back to the guitar and picked up an electric, for me it was Caroline and Paper Plane that got my fingers bleeding, literally. In hindsight I guess Francis Rossi did in part inspire me somewhat to play lead, too. Certainly a large part of how I ended up the band and we've done a lot of their songs including Matchstick Men. Every now and again I edge one in like Rain a couple of weeks ago, a few of those tracks are over in the "Testing the waters" thread.

Also have a live album of theirs. Not an early one. Them as "old men" still out playing.

The old "Live" album is worth having, seriously. They were at their prime and absolutely killing it. Later I'd say the Just Doin' It tour was good and their 2nd and final reunion tour, The Frantic Four's Final Fling. I have the 'DVD' of the last show at the O2 in Dublin - magic to see them grey, but the original lineup back together and in shape. I have nothing against the later lineup and I think Andy really brought a lot to the table but John and to a degree Alan knew how to push things.

How about something completely different, American again. Excuse the sound and playing, I had the Gretsch to hand, though this is meant to be played (and I'm used to playing it) on a Les Paul.
