Funny...Lefty here...and I do much the same as you describe. It’s dependent on the task at hand, of course, but I grab the solder roll with my left hand first. The iron just needs to find its home, but the solder must feed gracefully.

I generally let Johnson hold the iron. Then I can use one hand to feed the solder and the other to hold things in place with a pair of pliers. Can go either way.

This has really peaked my curiosity of making friends with Giraffes.
Are Giraffes friendly?
Or are they like Lamas, who spit on humans?

I once tried to befriend a Lama, but I discovered that Lamas don't really like humans so much.
In fact, they sort of puke on humans.
Elephants are more friendly than Lamas.

Then we could consider this:
A camel has 2 humps. A dromedary has 1 hump. RJ Reynolds does not know the difference between a 1 hump wump, and a 2 hump wump.
The "camel" on the package is a dromedary. Not a Camel.

Now, getting back to soldering: Camels cannot solder because of their toes. They have no disposable thumbs, therefore they cannot hold a soldering iron, as Giraffes so frequently do.

When I golf, I drive by throwing the ball with my right hand and I putt by kicking the ball with my right foot.

So, I’m pretty right-side dominant.
