Amp tone and volume

Ok, thanks. It is so odd that some days it all falls into place and others I cannot put 2 notes together. It is almost always attributable to emotional tension

It happens to everyone. Some days there is the Midas touch, and some days there is the reverse Midas touch and everything turns to poop. Blow it off, and wait for tomorrow.

You know, many many moons ago I walked into The Music Workshop and pretty much said the same thing - back in the day when I was trying hard to get better, be a pro, etc. The response I got was pretty much what's your point and join the club - lol. We all have those days/times - at least the those of us honest enough to admit it ;)

P.S. I'm going thru that with the drums. Sometimes I sit down and I am like, cool, I'm doing pretty good. The next day I sit down and I'm like, wasn't I getting the hang of this yesterday - lol...

Direct and mic recroding comparisions is a whole new topic, but easily done. The thing is the difference will be dictated by the mic selected, where it is placed, etc., so I am not sure how much the comparison proves since the contrast can vary so much from recording to recording

RVA, My point was if your " direct " recording produces the sound you are after. Then you are getting as you said, adverse EQ results and sound anomalies occur as the volume is increased with the amps, guitars and signal chain of your setups. Let us hear this phenomenon of eq madness vs. to use a scientific term, " control" sample ( direct) recording.

It was actually a volume thing. Raising the volume ruined the EQ balance. But yes, direct recording is much more predictable

I had to get back on the recording horse after falling on my face yesterday. I think I got a fair to good EQ balance (for this song anyway) at high volume. This is the Phase amp on the "Marshall" gain channel, the amp that led me to start this thread. Not a great performance, tone or recording by any means, but it would work in a mix and serves as a starting point for the endless knob tweaking we all do!

I was going to post a clip tonight, but after trying for a while, I have decided to burn my guitars and then cut off my fingers. Sometimes it just doesn't flow!
i had something sililar happen since Saturday. I could not get a song going to record..for the first time ever. It freaked me out..called myself names...
..I just decided to jam my heart out...play all the amps & guitars and fall in love again with em all. over again...the gear just started a revolution in my artist side of my tiny P brain...it came back this morning...sometimes we forget to just sit on a stool or chair & let the heart speak thru the guitar.....we worry about wires...pickups....amps..ect...just play them few notes on the guitar...enjoy it....make music..not perfection....it will happen...it will happen naturally ! hey sir..your clips on a Klon CL sent my guitar playing to another dimension..it was your clips that i was able to hear the subtlety of the Klon & you helped me..now parts of your help are on almost all my recordings !! It will flow..you got it...next tune is right around the corner for ya !!
