HAHA, I think.....

Somewhere, AMPMAD, in a prior post I describe how I once heard of something called a short circuit, so I decided to make my own by cutting off a shaver from the cord, then splicing the 2 ends together and proceeded to plug the fireworks maker into the socket. Man was that a lot of smokey toxic rubber mess. I was a wee youngster to be this stupid LOL

Lets start with a great video

This really is a nice video. Now that I know that a much smaller value resister is safe to use after watching this video, I'm going to change the value of the resistor of my discharging jumper wire from 200K ohms to 100 ohms. Bleeding off voltage does go really slow with a 200K... and I'm too impatient...

Don't chew on a length of solder while contemplating your next move - ingesting lead kills brain cells....

And may I add:
Minimize, as much as possible, breathing in the fumes of the soldering. If you can smell it, you're breathing it in. The proper way is to setup a updraft/extracting/vacuum system over the soldering work area. Otherwise, allowing fresh air to flow into the work area and positioning a small fan directed at your face, but not directed at the soldering joints, is very effective, too.

Never work on amps around small children - you will be embarrassed when they pick up the language you use when you touch live wires.

And may I add:
This should include the very affectionate kitty cats. I fried the 2 IC/power chips in a friend's Marshall Mode Four amp, cuz a kitty jumped on my lap while I was handling a live amp chassis.

When clipping wires or component leads with diagonal pliers, point them away from you - the cut leads fly off with incredible velocities, and can easily damage your eyes...

Sometimes those cut leads can dissappear into the Twilight Zone. Make sure those cut leads are not lodged somewhere inside the amp. Compressed air works well and can usually fish them little boogers out.
