America's Cup/Sailing - anybody watching it?

It's a very interesting set of races...

Watch this (from two hours 15 minutes; just for 20 minutes of the race) and be engulfed in an amazing sport:

International sport at the highest level is a great watch (especially when Britain are winning...). You Americans have an excellent boat, very fast, and with every chance of winning the cup. The channel is free on Youtube to watch every race:

Enjoy!

We're too simple and dumb most of the time in what sports we watch. Usually need someone getting their spine crunched in a tackle, a collision midfield trying to make a catch, breaking your opponents ankles in a spin move or having stock car barrel roll to tickle our fancies lol

Those AC75's are reputed to cost a pretty penny or two.

Apparently, Team Ineos have invested £50,000,000 in this.

Yes, most sports, when you get into them, are very interesting and enjoyable. But, as you suggest, watching a bit of sailing is quite a relaxing (and enthralling) pastime rather than non-stop boxing and NFL/Rugby.

A bit brutal for American Magic today. Excellent competitors and a credit to the America's Cup, but this won't be their time.

(I am wearing the American flag in support.)

I like watching the sailing races. My sister-in-law and her husband have competed in the Bermuda race. The company I work for has a boat in the Vendée Globe 2020/2021 race. They are running in 17th place right now.. I haven't been sailing in a few years, and miss it. The only time I was crew on a race boat was for the Figawi Race between Hyannis and Nantucket. For such a short(?) race course it had all sorts of obstacles such as weather and wind changes fight you.

Interesting stuff, Mr SG. I have zero experience in sailing, but am enjoying watching this America's Cup. It'd be nice to get out on a boat and try a bit of sailing. I'd hope to better at it then I am at playing guitar...

The North Atlantic is literally less than a mile to the southeast of my house. My wife's sister got the boat bug about twenty years ago, and has upgraded every few years. SHe now has a 48 foot sailboat with twin helms. The boat we did the Figawi race on was a 36 footer. It's funny that my wife always says she wants a boat, but she would rather fly to meet meet her sister wherever she sails to, instead of doing the actual sailing. I would rather be on the boat for the sailing. There really is nothing like being on a sailboat a few miles from shore, and only hearing the sound of the boat cutting through the waves and maybe some seabirds. If your lucky, you'll see some whales or porpoises. It really brings about a great sense of perspective and serenity.

Being right next to the sea is a bit of a dream of mine. For a few years now, I've been itching to buy a little boat and a place overlooking the sea on the south east coast of England...

I could do with some of that. &, maybe a small parlour acoustic to play far from anybody; only the seagulls to annoy.

When the weather is a bit more pleasant, it's nice to walk downtown and take a stroll along the water (hit a pub or two on the way back home too). Being in an old port city is nice. I'm right between Salem and Gloucester. It's beautiful here, regardless of what winter decides to hit us with. The other three seasons are definitely worth the price of admission.

A terrible weekend on the water for Inneos... They'll need to turn this around smartly, or they'll be heading home.

The crew were not totally in control of Britannia today... :io:

Nearly went the way of American Magic:

These boats are fast and (can be) unstable.
