Am I the Only One Watching the Frickin' World Cup?

Like these American Footballer's?

Glad to hear, Don,

I have somewhat diminished fingers on my right( pick) hand.
One day while pred-drilling wood to trim some windows while standing in overgrown bushes up against a house, I had a catching accident too.
The drill with a 5/64 inch bit in it fell from the brick sill and was heading toward my foot when my quick reflexes caused me to try to catch the drill and press it up against the bricks as I drove the bit through my skin.
Unfortunately, my hand got all infected and before I fully healed, my range of motion and strength of my index and middle finger got weaker and diminished. They work pretty ok, but I can't put much pressure on the plectrum when it is between my thumb and forefinger. This also hinders even rotating a pick into position to play, or even finger plucking the strings.

Ouch - I could feel that. Being an old hand at electronics, my instinct when something falls is to get out of the way, then pick it up when it has all settled down. You only grab the wrong end of a soldering iron once.

Yup, Don. My other unfortunate incident happened over a decade before that incident.
I was new at carpentry and working on the snow covered, icy ground one February. While nailing framing studs together to make walls with door openings, I had a pair of studs lying on the ground to nail together when I slipped on the ice with both hands heading to brace my fall. My framing nail gun hit my foot on the way down which shot a 3 inch nail thru my right foot at the base of my big toe. Needless to say, it hurt just a wee bit. Had a good doc and therapy, so I rarely even notice the minimal diminished flexibility in my toe or any residual pain.

Hello TR Schwingers!

Concerning the World Cup, it's been frickin' quiet here! Who else is watching, and who else besides Goldmember is cheering for Iceland???

Cheering for Iceland??? I thought you'd be cheering for Holland...now isn't that VEERD!

The simple answer is that the Netherlands didn’t qualify this year.

They didn't! That's surprising because they are usually a good team and a force to be reckoned with. I don't have cable TV so I'm not always up-to-date with the news...thanks for the info Gahr.:)

The World Cup is one beautiful trophy and in GOLD! This is probably the most coveted trophy in all of sports in the universe. Everyone up here is cup crazy displaying their flags from their native countries on their car windows. It's a very ethnic community where I live. We even have a Fiesta week which just started today celebrating everyone's ethnic backgrounds. Food and beverages are sold at different pavilions throughout the city.

They are usually a very good team. Made it to the final in 2010 (lost to Spain) and beat Brazil to win the bronze medal in 2014.

Yes, unfortunately, the Dutch Team suffered an unfortunate schmelting accident; hence, they are not in the World Cup this time.

Serbia kicked butt today, too! :)

Germany was a major disappointment today vs. Mexico.

how long is this thing on??????

It cut into my Ren & Stimpy cartoons :mad::mad:

They do this weird thing where they extend the time. I don’t know how that works.

Seriously, the fields are HUGE. I get tired just watching them run.

At least, when you flop in hockey you get to lay down on ice for a few seconds and cool off!

All I know Witty Smitty is that a soccer game is 90 minutes long that includes a halftime break. The referee keeps count of the injury time after 90 minutes and announces when the game is over so you don't know how much time exactly is left in the game. And the field itself is about the same size as a CFL (Canadian Football League) field which is much larger than an NFL one...about 150 yards long including the end zones and 65 yards wide compared to the NFL's 120 yards long and 53 yards wide.

Almost. The 90 minutes doesn't include the half time break - there are two halves of 45 minutes. Just before the end of each half the number of minutes added on for injury are announced, but the referee won't stop play dead on that time - he will wait for a natural break in the game - like the ball going off the pitch.

The size of the goals was set years ago when goalkeepers were about 6 inches shorter than they are today. That's why the scorelines tend to be fairly small. Back in the day half time was a chance for the players to have a cigarette and a pint of beer. Don't think they do that any more...
