Almost Lost My Thumb!

I just finished taking the blades off the lawnmower deck & putting a nice sharp fresh edge on them & then proceeding to put them back on the lawnmower. I had everything snugged up nice 'n finger tight & just had to tighten the bolts down that hold the blades in place... all that needed was that one good final ratchet turn using some muscle to insure things don't let loose.

So.. I give that wrench one last forceful pull with a good amount of muscle behind it & the damn socket twists off the bolt! The wrench goes flying & my hand goes right into that freshly sharpened blade! OWww!! Mutha fvk'r!! OWWWahh!! Right across my two left hand playing fingers & down to the bone!

Lucky me, everything healed pretty good, not perfect but good enough. plus I can play like it never happened so..

Another OUCH moment...I think most of us are lucky we still have all our parts...I grew up way before "safety" anything....

Yep. We weren't safe from that here in Oz either... :( Thankfully that has almost ceased in the last 15 years or so.

Me too.. I'm surprised we didn't get our hands chopped off a few years later for playing with what was left from when the FIRST part was cut off... :D

I'm getting worried about the thumb...it's been a week and the cut has a very angry red ring around it. I'm afraid it might be infected...may head to the doc tomorrow...

No don't worry about the doctor, come over our way, I've got a circular saw and not afraid to use it.
Get rid of that pesky infection in a flash.
 
Mwahahahaha! We're better!!! In all seriousness though, I've lived in WA since I was 2. First in the pilbara mining towns of Newman and Port Hedland, then since 1988 in Perth. Haven't even been to Melbourne since 1975!
The wife and kids were there about 3 years ago, but I'd just had ankle surgery and wasn't able to fly.... Maybe it was Karma!
 
Very good mate of mine lived in Newman from about 1972'ish to about 10 or so years back.
Newman is a small place ...
Just worked out you would have been about 15 when you went to Perth, possibly at school with his kids, surname Stringer?

Name does ring a bell... There was 2 primary schools there, and I don't remember them from school. Probably footy or cricket, where there was no school boundaries. I'll ask my brothers if they know any more and get back to ya!

And that reminds me of a time back in the late sixties were pregnant women were having birth defects due to interactions of various drugs, pesticides etc etc. There was one defect where babies were being born without proper working eyelids, as in their eyes couldn't close all the way. However, If you were lucky enough to be a male baby born with this problem doctors found they could easily repair the deficiency by using the foreskin from that child's circumcision (normally just discarded) to correct the problem through a skin graft / plastic surgery procedure.
As I recall it worked great until the children got older & these males started looking at all the girls cockeyed.
