Alex Lifeson with TOOL in Toronto

Well chalk this one down for something you wouldn't ever think to see: Alex Lifeson joined TOOL on stage in Toronto and began playing the opening of A Passage To Bangkok which lead into Jambi but a few minutes in, they switch back into the solo of A Passage to Bangkok before switching back to Jambi again. And I should note, he played the entire time with them, thus learning Jambi which is even crazier

That should have been fun.

Though it doesn't make my top 3 concerts of all time, TOOL was JUST outside of the top 3 for the experience alone. I've never seen a show like their's as far as production value and visual effects goes. You hear folks all the time say " TOOL live is an experience!" And you get it once you see them. It's not that the band is fully energetic and running around the stage ( though Maynard is a showman and Danny Carey is now the best living drummer after Neil Peart's passing), it's seeing the lights and lasers, the videos in the backdrop and the timing and sequencing of the music.

Having a legend like Alex Lifeson join them would have been the cherry on top

I’ve mentioned it here before. One of the tunes my youngest used to teach himself bass, was Tools “Schism.” And that would be the only song I can tell you that Tool has done. That was 20 years ago and when it comes on the radio I know it as soon as the bass kicks in. He actually got pretty good at doing the bass line for it.

You should spend some time getting to know their catalog. It's some of the greatest progressive metal/rock ever recorded. It can be challenging at first, but the truth gets revealed with successive listenings.

To be honest, when Undertow came out and they gained their initial popularity; I was 50/50 on them. By the time Aenima came however, I was obsessed because it was an epic leap forward. Then it just keep raising the bar with each album, though admittedly, Fear Inoculum took me a few listens over to really enjoy it. I love it now but compared to 10,000 Days it's a much slower build up

Speaking of Alex Lifeson and Rush.

I got this post from Rush in my Facebook. My buddy Al Percival who works for Pearl Drums commented. Then I posted that Al should ask them if they need a drummer and if they were auditioning. Not that I think the Real Alex or Ged would reply, but both Al and I got a heart emoji from Alex as in my picture here.
