Alas! And My Tone Escapes Me:

YOur living in the past man...........

LOL....I guess so....maybe that's why I always get asked to do these classic rock projects????

And now I wonder if tone is like BBQ'ing??? You know, when you cook a steak that isn't all that great and you don't really care for it but everyone else likes it???? I mean like... what if my tone is a tone that I won't ever like and I'm just stuck with it????

Another thing....when I was playing Strats....I was going into a 6x10 Ampeg cabinet. Maybe its not enough speakers????

yeah---- thats it Robert its like BBQ!!!---- the great masters never liked what they paint,play,sculpt/cook -- I find that I have this issue with many things because if I build/create it--- I KNOW the flaws-- I see the imperfections (as NOTHING is perfect) and it appears/sounds much different to me than it does to others...........

Either that or they are just being polite----(my major suspicion)

Consider how many years....and how many changes Les Paul made to his tone-- and his tone makers----- all chasing ----what????? the PERFECT TONE-----

You may be onto something. I used to get people come up and compliment my cheap 1987 Squire Stratocaster after a show....and I was thinking...It sounds shitty Dude!!

Same elusive demon I'm chasing now....

Ok....well, here is an example of , what I guess you could call "my tone."

On this original song, written in 1998 and finished in 2011, you can hear my 1987 Squire Stratocaster clean through my JTM30 combo. You will also hear my Schecter through the JTM30 and you will hear a borrowed 1928 National Triolian Resophonic Resonator played through a 1959 Sears 5 watt tube amp.

I guess when you admire the tone of certain artists...like Angus Young and Doug Aldrich, you hope to craft your own unique tonal signature and mine just kind of leaves me wanting something more....

Les never stopped man.............94 years old........always chasing tone--- probably still chasing it up in the big jazz club in the sky

well and so... I suggested weeks ago that you put the '57 classic and '57 Classic plus pickups
in your SG, with a good quality wiring harness.

It seems you have not done so. I'll remind you that this is the path.
Ah done tole ya an tole ya an tole ya.

You have some lovely guitars and some excellent amps and pedals. These render up great
tone, whether you realize it or not. We've all heard it. What you lack is the SG with '57s mojo.

Add that to your arsenal and you can stop fussing with equipment details and work on your
technique and arrangements. That's what it's all about anyway IMHO. It's not about the gear.
It's about the music.

YOur living in the past man...........

We all are.
Here's how it works.

Your senses take in information, sight, sound, touch, etc.
Your brain takes the information your senses gathered and
constructs an image of everything from what was gathered.
This image is the world as you know it.
This process takes approximately 20 milliseconds.
Everything in your world. Everything you see, hear, feel,
smell, taste, etc. all happened 20 milliseconds ago.

There is no now for us.
There is only 20/1000th of a second ago.
