AC30 cracklin', popin' scratchin. Minimal volume

But working on amps is new to me. I know what the capacitors are and how to discharge them. Or just stay away from them. It just looks awful crowded in the chassis.
Here’s a good tip that I learned the hard way:
Even with the amp powered off and the caps discharged, make sure the amp is unplugged from the AC source. If the amp is plugged in, there is still live AC at the IEC socket and the power switch.

Depends how often you play it hard too. If it needs tubes every like 5 years, who cares?
Exactly.

I'll rarely play as loud as the last couple days. I wanted to push the amp to find out. I've been playing at vol at 7-9. Shoulda had the ear plugs in. So far, I'm impressed with the SovTek EL84M. They get warm, sure. But not like a toaster oven. I'll be keeping an eye on the temp. More normal for me is vol at 2-4.
Tubes in the DSL100 and the AC15 are approaching 7years now.

I did that once. Likely the same day I let the magic smoke out of my discharge resistor when I left it clipped on during power up.

I've done a few silly things. That's why I like to check with all yous before I pull out a screw driver.

I've drilled through a headstock. Twice. Those little keeper screws for tuners drive me nuts.
Wrapping masking tape around the drill bit at a shallower depth than the headstock will stop that kind of oopsie.
