AAAWW the Stones

I am so torn on the Rolling Stones. I strongly dislike everything they did before Mick Taylor was in the band, except for Beggars Banquet. I really like all of what they did when Mick Taylor was in the band. I love the first two albums with Ronnie Wood in the band (OK, technically he wasn't a full-time member on Black and Blue, but you get my drift). I hate everything since Some Girls.

I think Keith has been the MAIN influence on my way of holding a guitar and playing it. I never looked up to him in that sense but every riff I play has his "accent". And my main band plays mostly Stones stuff, besides our own songs and other covers.

Mick Taylor could play circles around all the other musicians that ever played with them, Brian Jones was everything they say, and all, but without Keith and Jagger they'd never have been the same band.

There's a different mojo to their music. Some kind of bad hoodoo buried in their yards that makes every hit they release become famous and infamous, great and dreadful.

Everytime I start strumming the intro to Gimme shelter, hit the reverb for Paint it black, or roll up the volume knob and begin to solo in Sympathy for the devil, there's a different energy that hits the people who are watching us and dancing. It's something very particular.

+1 strongly on the Mick Taylor records.
I like quite a few songs from before and some after, but not much after Some Girls.
I dont know the catalog well after Tattoo You, but kinda lost the mojo for them at that point.

Keith ...........................is a legend
the bass players a perv
the Drummer died 2 decades ago (he is a marionet now)
Mick ...........oh where to start with that stripper dancing big lipped fool
and them other guys they drag around now and then were better off alone

did I say that out loud ?????

But hey --- they been packing auditoriums and ....er other things since before I was hatched ...... and besides...............

In the eternal argument of Stones vs Beatles, i sill always go with the Stones. The Beatles were awesome and arguably are the most influential band ever, but the Stones always clicked more for me. Maybe it was the dirty, sex and drug addled imagery and lyrics vs songs about Love Me Do or Holding Your Hand; I dunno!? But i love both bands immensely, just one outweighs the other by miles.

And i love all eras of Stones. Not gonna pick Jones vs Taylor vs Wood era, though i do favor the string of albums under Mick Taylor most of all, namely the near perfect Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street albums. But even beyond Some Girls ( another near perfect album) was great albums spread over time like Voodoo Lounge for example.

WHY do people do the STONES VS BEATTLES thing ?

thats like battle bots vs hand mixers................. they arent (other than being limey tarts) at all the same. ......................................

HEY ,....... HEY ----- dont ..........................................leave it .,........just.....

Its like Pulp Fiction when Mia Wallace asks Vincent Vega " are you a Beatles guy or an Elvis guy? You can like both but never equal: one you have to like more than the other".

In the sense of Beatles and Stones, they both came from Britain and pretty much ushered in rock n roll to the masses. So whenever you have a new genre of music, theres always gonna be at least two titans of similar style competing and the question remains of " Who did it better?".

No particular order but good examples are:
Jimi Hendrix Experience vs Cream
Metallica vs Megadeth
Black Sabbath vs Led Zeppelin
Nirvana vs Pearl Jam
Judas Priest vs Iron Maiden
Oasis vs Blur even
