A Christmas present

So my son says he is learning to play guitar, knows three chords, probably is two more than I can do. I told him I would build him an amp if he learned to play. So I decided to build him a combo since all he has is a tinker toy starter kit. I looked on ebay for a donor combo amp, found a new Chinese built Stage Right combo that had a 12" Celestion 70/80 speaker in it, and had 2 EL84's and three 12AX7's in it. Bought it, it had hum issues, the speaker baffle was knocked loose in shipping and the rear cover braces were busted. I took a partial refund and promptly gutted it for parts. Pics below:

Put in a Hammond PT and a MPS OT reused the 9 pin socket knockouts, enlarged one of the knockouts for an 8 pin octal rectifier tube and staked a turretboard.

Decided to use 6CM6 output tubes instead of the EL84's and built this as a 5D3 preamp, like the cage amp that I built for myself. Heaters and power section wired up.

Dropped the turretboard in, lashed it up and try fitted it into the cabinet. Passed the smoke test and sounds great.

Got the cosmetics finished, it's ready for a Christmas bow.

Boy what a improvement when I see the Chinese PCB in the first photos I want to puke

It actually had a nice clean tone with a tiny miniature spring reverb tank (the tank was maybe 2" x 4" . But turn it up past 2 and the hum was terrible. The nice thing was it came with all JJ tubes.
