So I drop into my local shop and chat to the staff (I have a great relationship with them).
They tell me they have a Gretsch 6131T-62 Vintage Select in stock, OK they have me, I tried to buy one last year but got super pi**ed around by the importer so I got my deposit back in anger.
Here it is ...

They tell me the guitar I'm holding was approved last week by some bum who walked in off the street :-)

He (not his band) were booed off the stage in my town then again a couple of nights later in Newcastle (Australia). He cancelled his last show booked for Brisbane and went home. How about a BG show full of car talk and 3 songs played? Total sh*t fight I'm told.
My friends in the photo enjoyed the show BECAUSE they had FREE tickets and had never seen anybody so badly received, they said it was a hoot!

I'm thinking about swallowing my pride and re-ordering the 6131T-62 Vintage Select a second time now that I've handled one. :-(
Will sleep on it for a couple of nights, I previously had dear wife's approval, but second time around it may requite serious grovelling.

Wow I've never heard about that. Axl Rose from Guns N Roses was known to pull some BS like that. Not cool.

Other friend went and invited me, I almost got tickets but passed at the last minute.
When I saw the local newspaper report I followed the story as it unfolded over the following week.
After last cancelled show the media presented 3 sides ...
The venue owners got the flack re money demanded back etc. They were totally innocent and in a bad position.
The tour promoter said BG slacked it and didn't fulfill his obligation.
BG's people said he did as asked and the tour promoter failed to advertise the show correctly.
Can't see him back in Australia any time soon.

Only 10 min ago I mentioned to my wife my revived Gretsch gas, she said (as usual) get whatever you want, life is too short. :-)
Not interested in the germ covered Jet Firebird when the a 6131T-62 is on offer.
Lot of money, I'll sleep on it and probably get a stock check from the distributor. The computer in shop said "limited" that means 1 or 2 left but data can be out of date.
This thing with it's TVJones etc is calling my name.

I've a friend with a (don't know model) gorgeous mint green Gretsch. If I could only get it from email to here, I'd show you. Your wife's right. Screw the "5 day rule".
Gonna be hard to top this for a good day-not BG, but I will if I ever get a shower. No hot water in 2 weeks.
 
Everything about that guitar screams SEXY, and I find myself coming back to this thread over and over just to admire the beauty of it.....

My personal rant on Billy Gibbons:
I've been a BG and ZZ Top fan since the '70s. BG is a great connoisseur of great tones and tasty playing. But a recent head-scratching moment is a semi-recent music project from his solo album: Perfectamundo. To this day I have not had the opportunity to hear anything from that 2 year old album. But what I did notice was some tour promo pics showing him with a custom John/Jake Bolin tele-style guitar with a pic depicting "Che" Guevara. I'm sorry, I could never be associated with anything immortilizing "Che".

Yeah, I am a huge fan of everything they did up until Tejas. After that, too much pop was sneaking into their sound and although Deguello and El Loco were "OK" albums, the dream died with Eliminator and I stopped paying attention. At his best, the Rev is one of the greatest blues-rock guitar players I have ever heard, but IMO he wasted his talent in search of the mighty dollar.

If your friend's guitar is BIG $,$$$ it may be "Broadway Jade, a color previously available only on a limited run of Pro Series Penguins in 2016" if it's MIC then it may be this affordable beauty.
