80's Nostalgia

I detested the keyboard laden dance 80s radio crap with a passion. And the easy listening garbage.
But the hair metal? Hell, yeah!!
Skid Row, Crue, Ozzy, Triumph!! , Ratt, Priest.......

I detested all the Hair Bands that tried to sound and look the same.

There was some great New Wave and Punk music in the 80's and that's where I drifted at the time.

The Fixx, The Church, Depeche Mode, Midnight Oil, Missing Persons, The Motels...I could go on and on...

I pretty much liked most of it, hair metal to new wave. Rap was just starting and I even liked the way it was done then. Aerosmith’s team-up with Run DMC was pretty cool.

I liked the synthesizer rock, too. I remember in college just about any of us with $20.00 to spare would get some cheap Casio keyboard from K-Mart and learn the intro to “Final Countdown” by Europe or the theme song to “Beverly Hills Cop.”

I remember the advent of the super strats and pointy guitars. The Floyd Rose really came into its own and was standard equipment just about everywhere. I remember the Kahler vs. Floyd Rose tremolo wars - it was kinda like VHS versus Beta or Blu-ray versus HD-DVD. I had my ‘74 Gibson SG then, but I felt like what I really needed was a Kramer or a Charvel or a Jackson. Lots of new things happening.

Fun fact:

Though it doesn’t feel like it, due to the style of music in the movie, “The Blues Brothers” is technically an ‘80s movie. It is set in 1980.
