#&$%&#@**#$!!!!

We have a physiotherapist who comes to the brewery every now and then. The doctor told me to take it easy for two weeks and gave me some pills (basically paracetamol and diclofenac). I guess I'll be ok in a few days. I recon I'm just getting old...

I have been taking diclofenac for the past 17-18 years. I have arthritis all through my back, shoulders, and hands.
If I dont take it for more than a day I am really miserable.
Hoping your issues pass without side effects.

@Gahr I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. Get well soon!

@ everyone who has noted that they have issues too, also sorry to hear.
I’m fortunate in the back issues arena...
Knees for me...not so much.
My left knee bothers me sometimes. I attribute that an old Marching Band injury. That’s usually good for a chuckle from people. Pretty sure some have thought I meant it.

Gahr,

What a Pissah! (that means, “That’s horrible!). At least, that’s what I think it means. I’m a midwestern , Northern Illinois USA boy who’s trying to figure out New England dialect!!!

UPDATE: My Bangor Babe wife confirms that, “What a Pissah,” means, “That’s horrible,” or, ”That’s too bad!”

Take it easy, Gahr!

If it’ll help your employment situation...tell me where I can buy a case of your brew in Southern Maryland, USA, and I’ll buy one this Friday.

I won’t drink it; but I will buy it!

S**t, f***k and other nasty words!

I screwed up something in my back at work yesterday. I bent down to pick up something, nice and easy, didn't lift anything heavy, no sudden movements, nothing silly or dangerous, but, BANG!!!, I suddenly had pain shooting down my leg and lower back so bad I could hardly move. I barely managed to get up the stairs from the brewhouse up to the brewery offices to get someone to take over for me. One of my colleagues drove me home. I popped some paracetamol and tried to rest for the remainder of the day. I'm not better today, so I'm off to the doctor's. I'm pretty sure he'll just tell me to take it easy and stay home for a few days, but I need to get the papers so I can get paid sick leave. I've hurt my back before, spraining muscles and stuff, but this is worse by orders of magnitude. Really makes me sympathize with people with permanent back injuries. I'm completely useless, and had to have help putting on my socks and tying my shoes this morning. God dammit, I nearly piss my pants whenever I have to go to the bathroom because getting up off the sofa takes so frickin' long!

Sorry, I just had to vent. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine in a few days, but this f****ng HURTS, man!
Brother I know just how you feel, it will get better, but not as fast as you would like it to!!!
Good vibes being sent to accelerate your recovery!

Dude--- been there ----threw mine out once standing up from the toilet! (bog) --Live with 2 herniated discs (from one or many of the old injuries/accidents)

totally sucks -- do you have chiropractic options there?? they do wonders for mine ---also wear a brace to sleep and often times I have to sleep on the floor to "straighten it out"

totally sucks --- hope you have a quick recovery
I have been sleeping on the floor for over 10 years now, it does help!

Sorry to hear that Gahr. I suffer in this way too. It is not a strain or sprain or "pulled muscle" that got you. When the discs are displaced in such a way that your motion results in nerve root involment, you go down. I could lift rocks all day and be fine, and then throw my back out for weeks by rolling out of bed. It is like grazing your b*lls. A little is a lot.

The solutions are particular to your unique physiological situation. Have you gotten an MRI or EMG?

The grazing of nuts is a good analogy. My doctor (a really nice guy who plays guitar, his hero is Richie Blackmore) had a similar episode to mine just getting out of the car a few years back.

I've pulled muscles in my back before, and this is definitely different, yes. I'm definitely a bit better already, but I'm still basically incapacitated. Doing any sort of work other than utilizing my limited mental capacity is completely out of the question...

No MRI or anything yet, but if I'm not ok or significantly better (well enough to work) by the end of next week, I guess I'll have to talk to my doc again and see if we need to take it further. What sucks the most right now is that I can't get any proper sleep. I never sleep on ny back, I've never really been able to fall asleep on my back and wake up all the time if I do. I sleep on my side, with my back slightly twisted, and at the moment I just can't find a comfortable position that I'm able to hold long enough. And shifting positions really hurt. I keep waking up all the time through the night, and when I don't get enough sleep for a few days, I usually get a migraine... And taking a piss is a problem. Simply because getting up off the sofa takes me so long. I now make plans for when I have to go. "Tactical urination" my English colleague called it.:D

But seriously, although I am complaining, I'm really optimistic. This is a mere hickup compared to all the crap that has gone down in my life over the last 18 months. Rated in the order of crappyness, my wife's cancer, hurting my foot, and losing a significant part of my income was FAR, FAR worse than this is right now. Hell, I get to spend time at home with my wife and kids (the kids start school again tomorrow) while I'm still getting paid! The life and lemons thing, etc. I have decided I'll be fine in a little while, and therefore I know I will. September will be a busy month, both at work and in my personal life, and there's no way I'm going to miss out on the fun. Norway's biggest beer festival is coming up on the 30th and 31st of August (Bergen Ølfestival, a local festival attracting more than 30.000 people). The week after that I'm traveling down south to the town of Sandnes to do a collab brew and an event at a pub. Then we are heading north to Trondheim to celebrate my sister-in-law's 40th birthday, and a little later it's back south to Stavanger for my dad's 85th birthday. Back problems are just not an option!:p

Another positive today is that I just got an email from the taxman saying I'm actually getting money BACK on my taxes. Only about NOK 800 (at the moment a little less than $90), but the thing is that I had planned for having to pay rather a lot and I have put quite a bit of money aside for the bill. Now I don't have to pay anything, which means I have over $4000 to spare! I'll be making extra down payments on our mortgage and putting the rest aside for a rainy day. I'm a sucker for financial security, and my goal is to retire as early as possible... :p
