6 Years Ago Brain Surgery for Wife

Was 6 years ago today the wife had her brain surgery. While we don't dwell on it, it does put things in perspective when we do think aboit it.
It was a BENIGN tumour so thanks for that right off.
A very long day for me. She went in at 8 AM and was almost 16 hrs of surgery. I got calls periodically so that helped immensely. Everything went excellent.
For those who care it was a rather large lesion that was between the upper and lower halves of brain in line with right ear behind right eye. They used MRI assisted computer as one cannot see in there. A Right side Cerebello-pontine angle meningioma. Went in through the right ear (translabyrnth) so she is deaf in that ear.

Came home after 17 days with a walker. Ditched it after about 4 days. Still has some balance issues but came through relatively unscathed.
Wound up with a shunt after a year due to hydrocephalus. That causes headaches.

We are truly blessed. I know many people here have serious health issues or their spouses, amd cancer and all sorts.
We do not take this for granted.
An awful day that ended well and allows us that perspective.
Cheers all.
Just musings....

Jethro,

SO good to hear your wife pulled through. Sorry about the ramifications. BUT, the alternatives would have been worse for sure.
I am guessing some balance problems could center around her loss of hearing/ change to her one ear.

SO glad she is alive and you 2 can continue to love one another the rest of your days.

Thanks mate!
Yes that is part of the balance plus which area of brain they went in.
Alternatives afterwards if iremnants ever start growing again, (she got out about 75%) would be gamma knife precision radiation zap to kill it in one hit. But still could have side effects.
So again we are lucky!

Fanfreakin'tastic! I've mentioned to you before what my wife went through with two forms of cancer at the same time, one being stage IV. That was recently when you had some concerns, but everything turned out ok. Ironically, we were just at the oncologist yesterday and had noted she has had no signs for four years now.

I understand the fear, and the joy of appreciating every single day with her, as you must.

True blessings, each and every day.

That is awesome!! (Imagine Neegan saying that on TWD)

Strumer and Jethro, you boys hang on tight to your gems. I pray you guys get every day as a treasure to share, like sis and I are having with our mom despite her diminished 82 year old self as a result of the dementia and stroke damage. As a whole, I hope all of our members have the best of possible lives with their loved ones.

Glad you 2 fella's wives seemed to have had good docs.

Yes we got her good care. Western Washington is the nation's leader in cancer research, along with New York. Of course these days all information is shared but we get treatments here before a lot of others because this is staging ground for trials.

Prayers for your Mom, and for you to get through the rough days.

I hope things improve for you! It must be an extremely hard thung to go through.

Yes Dr Lissa P**** and a crew here at Uni Hospital are among literally the world's best at this type of "brain GPS" surgery. Won't get any better anywhere else.
Nothing but praise.
Plus she is really hot.
As an aside....
