50th Anniversasry Tele

When I play I drag my fingers on the pick guard (scratch plate) which causes static to be picked up through my p'ups. I have tried putting tin foil on the back with a wire to ground but that does not help. I know we have some brainiacs here who will have some good ideas for me.

I have that problem in the winter when its dry (drier). I've had good luck with dryer sheets in the case.

I will give them a try. I use them when I am reloading to control static on my powder measure. Thanks.

I had a problem child pickguard one time Chas, I stuck a dryer sheet between the pickguard and the body.
Seemed to help.

I noticed that MRFed .........anchor the paw with the fingers on the deck do ya ?

Maybe my foil lined hat prevents this.

It's just static electricity. The pickguard material seems to conduct it for some reason, no idea what the physics are.

It sounds similar to the static-ey thing that new nitro-finished Gibsons do for the first month/year, if you've ever experienced that. They apply a charge to them to make the finish stick better during painting/finishing and it takes a while to dissipate. I've seen many an internet thread where someone has complained that there is something "wrong" with their new Gibson cos its noisy, but if you just give it a couple months or a couple dryer sheets it goes away and they are dead quiet.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread especially as I had the same problem and found an easy fix.
A secure little earthing clip from guitar onto house mains earth and the static is gone.

Yes, that Tele guitar is very reflective. Just be happy that gasket wasn't photographing his Jumbo...

I vote dryer sheet. I use one on occasion and it does seem to work ok.....

I had many problems - including a static charge on the neck and pickguard - all of which were eliminated by full copper shielding.
