$ 450 pickups in a $ 200 guitar

I had that SAME affliction with strats Kerry-- till I found the ONE -- and Im happy with it beyond belief -- you will find you 335 one day ;)

You think you have so many guitars, Ray. I have a lot of guitars. I used to only have my Rosewood fb Black Strat I fixed the T Rod on. Now I have 2. One with maple board. Oh and a Epi LP, 4 SG's ... As I see it, I had enough at the 1st Strat. Now I have at least 13 axes total. 10 too many when you figure my skill level into the equation.
13???? ;) light weight!! :)

They do make us happy though. I have trouble parting witht hem once I get them just right!

If its based on skill level I should have a 1 watt Danelectro amp and a walmart 45.00 guitar ...........but the world --is an unfair place -- and I have MUCH nice gear -- with no skills --- sad I know but hey -- Im ferengi! :)

I make a "joyous noise" lets say-- and yes -- the GAS and gear tinkering--- keeps me from MASS MURDERING STUPID PEOPLE -- that and I just dont have the energy -- there are SOOOO many of them .....probably pull a hamstring before I got 1,000 in ....

However, it is not just the plasure of modding, or a moderate cost savings that you get. The process taught me to care for all the guitars I own inside snd out, and allowed me to customize them in almost any way possible

TO ad to what Ray said--- the process of CONVERTING trash to treasure over the years HAS taught me many valuable-- useful skills-- learning, and knowledge-- and the fact I gained it -- at a PROFIT not a loss -- is a PLUS!

You both make fair points.

A few months ago I found an Epiphone Dot at a price I couldn't resist.

I could certainly imagine doing the same if I found a nice Epi 339. I'd love a 339, but Gibson's are soooo expensive. I suspect the Epi 335/339 is one area where they really are excellent value compared to a Gibson.

The Gibson 335s I’ve played are definitely nicer guitars than the Epi Dot I have now. They just feel nicer when you pick them up. As far as playing them the Epi plays well and sounds better than most after I did the upgrades. It has the added bonus of not being a $3,000 guitar that I’d be afraid to take out of the house. I have a 30 year old Larrivee that I rarely take out of the house and when I do I spend all my time worrying about it. Even taking it out of the case at home I’m very careful I don’t scratch it. For me that is the bonus in upgrading a less expensive guitar. I’m not afraid to play it.
