Picked up a brand new 2016 Gibson SG T Series in September. Very warm tone, but I'm trying to get the signal a little quieter, make some small cosmetic changes and get it ready to record on my upcoming CD.

I will detail the mods in this thread...IMG_20161204_11108.jpg

Love witch hats. Just got a set for the SGJ makeover today too.
They're not in any pics yet. They look so natural with the big guard.

My first mod was the Faber aluminum locking tailpiece. Keeps the tail in position during string changes and improved my sustain and unplugged volume....faberkit_diagram.jpgIMG_20161024_15917.jpg

I did not think I would ever find a 3 ply truss rod cover for my 2016 Gibson. My pickguard is 3 ply, but my truss rod cover was no-ply...

Been a busy week preparing for Christmas and all.

Here's my progress this weekend....IMG_20161212_21713.jpgIMG_20161212_31426.jpg

Note the tail of this truss rod cover is longer than the stock Gibson in the top photo, but the holes line up perfectly and it doesnt touch the nut....

A better match with the Batwing...IMG_20161024_32619.jpg

Nice work! That tail piece looks very interesting and I can see how it would improve the stability.

That's the Faber Locking tailpiece. I really noticed a big difference in sustain when I installed it. I'm making a similar spacer for the bridge that will keep the thumbwheels locked during string changes and, perhaps, improve sustain as well...

Now to address the loud buzzing in the brand new, 2016 Gibson SG. If I touch the bridge pickup, it literally goes crazy. If I touch the bridge, the buzzing stops. If I touch the metal barrel of the guitar cable, the buzzing stops. If I plug my other guitars into the same cable/amp. no buzzing, so it's not the cable.

Plus, I can create a static sound by touching the straplock on the body or by running my finger over the back of the control cavity cover.

LOTS of troubleshooting to do on a brand new Gibson....

Sounds like a major grounding issue. (I ought to know, I've caused many and fixed many) Surprising for a brand new Gibson.
