2016 Gibson SG 'T' Series Mod Thread:

Ok...the lugs on either side of the tone pots are grounds, as are the threaded portions of the pots, input jack and switch. These actually make physical contact with the floor of the control cavity.

However....almost all the other solder points are power and they cannot be gounded....IMG_20170121_50798.jpg

A little disappointed....the 3244-023 and 3242-023 AllParts witch hats fall right off my pots. They also fit loose on my Gibson Les Paul pots and PCB...and all the spines look the same.

I threw some gold top hats from a 2017 Les Paul Tribute on for now, but I need to get this knob situation straightened out.

My stock 2016 Gibson SG knobs fit super tight!!! You can see them in the image below....

looks really nice Robert but damn man you expecting a Meltdown or what :) J/K

If this doesn't work, I might have a meltdown... :-)

I'm OCD, Man....I can't do anything simple or easy.....I grew up working in my Dad's restoration shop where we were known for attention to detail....

Well......I'm not happy to say the least.

The buzz that was plaguing me is gone....but, the bridge 490T is really thin....thinner than my old 490T.

There is also a slight buzz present on the bridge pickup, but the guitar is TOTALLY silent in the mid and neck position...HOWEVER, the neck is heavy and dark.

Even though both pickups spec'd out at 7.8k the neck is much louder than the bridge.....

A lot of work....spent a lot of time doing this swap and I'm really disappointed. Its almost as if this Gibson SG does not want to be fixed....

Going to let this SG sit in the case for a little while....I need to figure out what to do....I think its time to let someone else have it...for some reason, nothing I do on this guitar works out....

After months of trying to get by with the Gibson PCB, I've given up....

Looks like I'm going with a custom harness...Tone Man struck me in the wallet...

Bournes 500k pots,
(2) audio taper potentiometers (volume)
(2) linear taper potentiometers (tone)
1 – PIO K40Y-9 Russian .033uf / 400v Capacitor (Bridge Tone Cap)
1 - PIO K40Y-9 Russian .015uf / 400v Capacitor (Neck Tone Cap)
1 - Switchcraft 3-Way Right Angle Toggle Switch with black tip
1 - Switchcraft 1/4 Output Jack
1 – 50’s style cloth push back 22awg wiring through out

Funny....I have spent more on this 2016 Gibson SG in 3 months than on my 1987 Stratocaster in 30 years....and I must have changed pickups in that think a dozen times!!!!
