1x12 or 2x12?

One of the most efficient designs internal volume = .0368 meter or 1.3 cu feet.
I have built cabs out of 3/4 (1.9 CM) lumber before and I think the thickness / weight is really overkill.
If I was doing it again I would use 1/2 (1.27 CM) and save all the weight.
I think over doing the construction is unnecessary I might look for a lighter material and thinner internal bracing.

I found a builder in Poland, they hanbuild cabinets for reasonable $$$. They look really good and they give a choice of materials and designs.

My 2x12 is a clone of a Mojotone Bluesbreaker Cabinet. It's weighs only 30 pounds with (2) Celestion 70/80's.

I think this is what AT was thinking if he didn't do a 2x12. Funny how similar scenarios surface with multiple members such as AT and myself etc at the same time..

My conundrum is I only have 4x12 sets of speakers, and 4x12 cabs, and so with 2 new speakers to fill a spot, I am in the same scenario as you, 1x12's or 2x12. Hmmm hehe

It occurred to me because I currently have two 112 cabs (trying to sell one) and an extra 12" speaker. I currently use one of them as extension cab for the JCA50 and it's a few feet away from the JCA, which gives it more of a 'wall of sound' vibe when jamming. Since I don't play live anymore, this works great for me.
 
Home use? 2 - 1x12s can be used singly or in a pair or stacked. We have a smaller pub venue we have played where I either stack a 1x12 combo on a 1x12 closed back or use a head on 2 - 1x12s due to the L shape of venue. One speaker points about 45° from the other. Works great!
Also depends what other cabs you have. I also already have 2 - 2x12s.

Nah, not for home use. When at home I just hook the amp up to the monitors. I figured since I have two speakers floating around I should put them somewhere for when the band strats playing again. If that ever happens...
 
Honestly, a 2x12 id say. Yeah, you're gonna hear complaints of " Oh man thats too much weight, i need something lighter!" Well, if you have two 1x12s, its still about the same total weight if not more really because there is more overall cabinet space. So its six of one, half a dozen of the other. Personally, i never got the argument of weight being a factor myself, because ive lugged 4x12s since I was a teen and I guess Im used to it lol but i get it if someone physically can't do that.

But with a 2x12, its compact and is just easier really. Leaves open more outputs open too if you choose to add more. Using two 1x12s, well there goes your outputs on most amplifiers as they usually only have two ( unless you have some rare mutant sized monstrosity that has 4)
