97 Korean Epiphone Pro 2 Super Strat, OBL Pickups, 25.5 scale. Thin wide neck, hot pickups but 100% clear. Bill Lawrence had been working with Epi but these came out after he left. they are excellent. The Wasburn G2v & this(1 more on way) have blown my mind. This was $175. The Washburn is lead monster & this is riff monster. Tonaly one sits right on top the other in the mix.

Don't think will ever pay over 200 for a guitar ever again,. The key to me was ..heavy & hot bridge-- the bodies are heavy so thay can cop gibson type ones & do strat also. The necks,,they are built for playability. Like em a lil wider for precise finger placement. The Schecter is a great guitar just a lil thin on width(can sometimes bump strings in full chord changes) if i was a teacher would have all the students learning on supersrats just cause of play ability. Blown away.. it's purple but looks black..its a mirror. Hey Sge..what you think of those pups !! Just played along to my last 6 songs on 3203..holy crap that bridge is hot but in all the right ways.. The washburn is real hot to..have to face away from amp but these can walk right up to it...was digging on net & saw Bill L has designs with Epi then parted ways..would be willing to bet his tech is in these..they rave about his first run hot pickups the L's of some sort..ya got any Epi knowledge to pass on about these at all? thanks
 
you know what I know they are hot -- great sounding RAIL style pups-- from what I can tell Gibson (Epi) -- marketed them as "OBL" because they had parted ways WIth Bill--

if you like those you should seek out some Velvet Bricks--- Have them in my Sonex 180 Deluxe--- dude they are AMAZING-- read reviews things like "they suck -- and they are horrible and hated and BLA BLOAH BLHA and maligned among the "corck sniffing Gibson faithful" -- some go so far as to claim them NOT USA made etc etc --

frankly -- I dont give a poo where they are made they sound AMAZING -- in a gutiar made of pancake construction "resin-wood" --- what ever --

I've noticed that in Mitchs playing. He said the only difference between his SG and his other guitars was the SG had a wider neck.

So from you experience playing a wider neck, would you say its better for chording and lead fretting....

i am a whopping 5'2" tall..lol...can't even get the pinky to use it for 2nd power chord root & 5th in position to play Rocky Mountain Way right..dang pinky won't stretch to it without pulling me away from the main chord

I find the flatter wider work for me for speed & lead work . Even can be chunky C.. with real narrow, tend to catch 2 strings together and stumble the chords. My 14 SGJ is a lil wider than my other Gibsons & it is the one i equate to my shredders,,,Finding the shredders span the hand in a way that allows very precise single note placement

Chords -no so good on the SGJ..Anything with serious full chord movement..i use 93 nighthawk. weirdly..its like a blend of the D-profile but a tad flatter. I have a heck of a time going to my strat cause i feel the d-b-e..almost have to intentionally pick downward at them vs 12 radius. I very much use my guitars for specific applications.

my answer seems to be 12 radius for chords with d type profile but not too thin....for speed that D squashed down but with a wider neck.. notice the guitars i favor when you put your hand around them, ya end up at same width but the hand is stretched around them in dif way & the fingers land on the fretboard a dif way..man, that was deep thought in my tiny brain..lol

The Sreinberger Tremolo is nic..that knob sets the tension & can lock it like a hardtail. It's very easy...kinda like it..not Quite like a FR but way better than the fender ..being able to put your type yension on it is a plus. especially for subtle vibrato then lock it in. it's been an eye opening experience last few days..after setting the Epi & Washburn up ..then playing all the others...it's def right at the Schecter---if i had to do it again would of bout 4 of em vs the new one. Was thinking would have to put some pickups in..not really the effect i was seeking tone wise is built in the guitars. The sound..if i cange em ..will just gravitate to what i already have. If it was day 1 again..few of these..jmp 50-3203(cleans like fender)-SD1 & gt75/v30 cab & away we go for 90% of what would evr be needed for recording or live use

Once you see the mythology of Gibson for what it is, you find guitars that play well without comprehensive setup, that don't pick up RFI/EFI and don't squeal like pigs at high volumes.

Gibson depends on their mythology of the past to sell guitars.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid...

I would suggest you try the Epiphone version of the Gibson 498T/496R - known as the H8BN/H6BN. They are not sold separately from the guitar, but Stratosphere (online and from their E-Bay store) sells them as new take-outs for $20.00/pair. They are a 2 conductor pickup.

The bridge H8BN is "officially" called a "Hot Ceramic 8" and the neck H6BN is labeled as a "57 Classic Alnico +"

I have them in my black Les Paul and they are fantastic. They are much more feedback resistant than the 498T...
