1982:

The fashion was terrible, not much exciting going on in music, cold war still on, economy just starting to crawl out of a terrible recession, worst of all Ronald Reagan pretending to be president. I wouldn’t want to go back for anything other than maybe another chance at youth.

I miss how the girl's dressed then. It was rare to NOT see a belly button then...

I can respect that.

I loved every second of the 1980's. We had the fastest cars in town, played in a metal band, had a perfect life at home, it was a decade of the best times. Even when my wife left me with our 2 year old Son in 1988, it was still a great era for me...I didn't care about politics, who was in the White House, what the Russians were doing, all I wanted was to rock and roll all night and party every day...and WE DID!!!!

Oh, I for sure partied. But I would rate the '80's as the second-worst decade of my life for American culture. I didn't feel at the time like we were living in a special place or a special time period (quite the opposite), and looking back, nostalgia hasn't changed my view of the decade any. I wasn't unhappy and I came from a great family, loved playing music and had what I thought was the hottest chick in town as a girlfriend, but I didn't shed a tear when the '80's were gone. I guess one could argue that in 1982 things were still very much a continuation of where we were in the late '70's and we hadn't completely evolved into the blight that the '80's would become, but I was still in high school and have no fondness for that experience.

I absolutely hated everything about the 1990's..LOL

Haha, I was totally the opposite! By the early '90's I was happily married to my first wife, had a good job and my first home, still playing music, the economy had improved dramatically, the cold war was over, the music on the radio was light-years better and I saw a much brighter future than I ever did in the '80's.

Goes to show that we all perceive things differently, even at the same age and similar background and experience. My wife (current one) enjoyed the '80's much more than I did.

I was also a Junior in ‘82, in my first band and drove an old American car (1970 Cutlass), but for me there is absolutely no love lost for the ‘80’s.

I had my share of fun but it was not a decade I look back on fondly. The fashion was terrible, not much exciting going on in music, cold war still on, economy just starting to crawl out of a terrible recession, worst of all Ronald Reagan pretending to be president. I wouldn’t want to go back for anything other than maybe another chance at youth.

I have fond memories of all the decades! The 70's were my best followed closely by the 80's. I spent almost two decades overseas in Asia. I have no idea what it was like to live in the US in from 1982 through 1998...but it was a hell of a lot of fun living in Korea and Japan!

This decade we are in now has been the worst for me. Not so much on a personal basis, but the way I see and feel about the climate in America...and I'm not talking about the weather!

Could not say it better; which ever side one is on it is more divisive than ever.
I see great upheaval coming; a flash point is nearing, it may be the 2020 presidential election.
After more than a 20 year hiatus I just re-upped today with my favorite "domestic terror group" (label is by others).

IF Beto comes for me, he better bring lots of backup.

03/15/1982 my first son Jarrod was born, I was still a young man, I played hard rock on the guitar and I had a Marshall
2104 2-12 MV combo , and the whole world was still a wide open place to become what ever you wanted to be, I was already a carpenter, worked outdoors, and no body could tell me shat,
Man so much has taken place since then!
Cheers Mitch

let's try not to get too political, it has caused issues in the past.
I do understand where you are coming from though, and I am right there with you.

I agree and I think we've said what we could without going to far. It is always wise to say less here as no one wants to step on anyone's beliefs.

I was 26, had a good paying job (still working at the same place), just bought my first house in Mira Loma, CA, had a 4wd Dodge Ramcharger with a 440 and had a group of 4wd couples where we did trips every month. The 70s were the best, then the 80s for youth stuff. Bought my 81 LPC new as a graduation present to myself.
