Ace Jazz Base Case!

I saw an item on FB Marketplace advertised as "Guitar case". On closer inspection, it was clearly a full flight case for a Fender Jazz Bass, so I nabbed it. Manufacturer is The Flight Case Warehouse, and they want £249 for a new one, so I think my £30 was well spent.

Wow!!! Excellent deal! Looks pretty pristine…congratulations!
There's a bit of rust round the catches, but it's very tidy apart from that. Importantly, it's the right grade of foam inside the case – so the instrument won't strike the sides if the case is dropped from a height – and it's the 'full metal jacket' extrusion round the sides. I've seen too many cases that look like flight cases, but aren't really up to the job.

Si you're a jammy b'sterd. :celebrate2: Nice catch mate.
I must admit, I keep an eye on Marketplace daily, and there are years when I sit looking at eBay like a vulture around Christmas, when sale prices are lousy.

My 1989 Fender 'longhorn' Jazz Bass was bought on Christmas Day. There were supposed to be something like 400 Watchers, but 397 of them seemed to be busy opening presents with the family, trying on a naff jumper from Granny, or eating too much turkey. That left three of us, and the other two maybe hit the sherry a bit earlier than me, because I got it for £730, inckuding a tweed case.

The seller seemed happy with the result, so I didn't feel too much like the bad guy. He didn't do himself any favours by listing it as 'local collection only', then adding at the bottom of the description: "I suppose I could send it via courier, if you're prepared to book it yourself."

Worst MarketPlace guitar description I've seen so far (and this one is current in the Worthing area): "Eastcosta Gutter I say kid's size". It's actually a Strat copy, branded 'Eastcoast', but it looks like it is 3/4 size. Some people don't really help themselves get a decent price, do they?

On the moral upside, my wife has a friend who used to be a missionary. She thought her Takamine electro-acoustic was worth about £250, but I landed her £500, because I knew she'd sell for too little otherwise.

That's an interesting transaction series...
Me, I only own one bass any more. I'm retired so I sold my old Fender Jazz and my rebuilt Squier Precision.
I now have only my Warmoth fretless, which is my dream bass. I named her Loretta after a song by
Townes Van Zandt.

She resides in a gig bag these days. When I sold my '66 Fender J Bass, I included a reproduction Fender
Tweed case, because I thought it would sell better. I don't think I got much more money for it, which is
my cross to bear. But I needed it gone, and I needed to get as much money as I could for it, and I can't
complain about small stuff.

Here's the gig bag my Luretta lives in:

This gig bag is made by Reunion Blues. I like it a lot. This is the one
that they advertised by throwing it off a four story parking structure with a
Strat inside, and the Strat was unharmed and still in tune. *laughs

So I bought one and to me it's worth it. I don't know if my Luretta would survive
such treatment, because she's heavier than any Strat and maybe would land harder
on the concrete. I have no intention of finding out. I paid considerable money for this
case, and would be annoyed to see them for sale on the Bay for small money, but it
has to happen, doesn't it. *shrugs

I wanted mine to be lighter and handier than my old one, and it is.

Agreed @Col Mustard, light cases or gig bags are the way to go if you're the only one handling your gear. FWIW, I sold the flightcase on Reverb for £160 to a bass player who was delighted, because he was about to go on tour around Europe.
