Upcoming project

If you are using a high gain amp, or booster pedals, I wouldn't expect the micro coil pickup to rival humbucking pickups.
Maybe if you were playing a low gain clean Princeton amp, the noise would be acceptable.
But a single coil is going to get quite noisy when it's boosted by a high gain setup.

Shielding will help...but it's not going to be as good compared to a humbucking PU.

A. You can use 2 of the single coils with a 5 way switch to make a humbucking circuit....super strat wiring.
B. You can use a dummy coil inside the guitar to cancel the hum.

But I would go for the JBE humbucking strat pickups developed by Danny Gatton.
Because they sound pretty much just like Fender PUs, with higher output and no buzzing noise.
And there is a coil switch option with these PUs, so you can play it single coil if you want.
Joe Barden Electronics aren't made by Joe Barden. Long story. Kind of like Bill Lawrence pickups weren't made by Bill for a long time and his brand became Wilde.

The micro-coils are a unique beast designed by a genius. Some call them bright or hi-fi. I call them articulate. The most gain I would be using is something like Mick Mars tone in "Dr. Feelgood". This guitar won't be for that, but the micro coils do handle gain with a low noise ceiling. This guitar will be for boogie and honky tonk mostly.

Here's a couple of gut shots that show a comparison to a standard s/c.

I can't wait to see it done. I love two tone sunbursts on Strats.
Me too! I don't much care for 3 tone sb on strats.

Here's my WildWood '54 thinskin - think Buddy Holly. I even put the vintage polypropylene plastics on it after this pic was taken. It has the CS Fat 50's p/u's in it and I think they sound fantastic.strat1.jpgstrat2.jpg

This is the same guitar I am playing at the lake in my OP.

Luckily, no gators up here in Washington.

I almost have it all figured out. Still mulling over p/u's. I also need to figure out a p/g. I really want it to stand out. (my old chum is a heckuva picker so I need to get attention somehow!)

I'm leaning towards something like this tooled leather pg...and a strap to match.

Well see, that's the difference.
I have no faith in Bill Lawrence products, whatsoever. Based on experience.
Particularly, solder-less patch cables...

But if Lawrence is telling you a single coil PU has no noise...
I personally think that's a crock of BS. I mean really.
So if I were you, I would start looking at humbucking strat PUs.
