Looky what I gots on da way...

1800 bucks per tube - that ain't cheap...

Actually, that ain't a bad price. Western Electric (who first produced the 300B), RCA etc 300B's usually run $2,000 plus for a True NOS/NIB. Regarding the 300B, , these are incredibly linear devices (triodes). Tetrodes & Pentodes just aint in the same ballpark. No NFB needed with these devices, no siree!!! We all know what NOS, 10,000 hour tubes for guitar amps etc can cost,, well those RCA 300B's are a 40,000 hour tube & will most likely still be going strong after that. Cheers

hmm, I'm going to have to look into this some. Sounds like it's super high fidelity tube amp. I can't make out the model number of the amp. Any chance I might be able to get the make/model number and/or possibly other amps of the same type?

Western Electric announced in May this year that they intended to start up tube production again, IIRC some time around September & will be re releasing the 300B as their "flagship". They intend to have it out in time for the 80th anniversary of the original release. They also intend releasing a new single ended amp, the 91E, to honor their original 91A amp.
Audiophiles have long been designing all manner of amps around these triodes, both single ended & push pull & continue to do so. Gotta be a reason for it. Cheers

Cool article. I've got a pair of nice Infinity 3000 speakers I've been holding on to, as the wife wants to use them for a stereo system if we can ever manage to get into our own home. I've been wanting to build/mod/refurbish my own stereo system tube power amp for a while now - well, time to move it up the to do list I guess. I think it's time the wife has one for her Infinity speakers ;)

Now, if I can just survive the monstrous Cordovox Tone Generator - man, that thing is a beast and a half and chuck full of old butt carbon resistors, many of which I imagine are pitching some sort of a hissy-fit...

Ok... you got my attention! Western Electric? They've been gone for over 20 years. Tell me more... :fingersx:

The CEO did a press release to this effect earlier this year, giving a hopefully September release date. I'll see if I can find it & provide a link to. Its not the first time that a 300B re release has been rumored though, sometime around 2005/6, IIRC there were rumors that didn't eventuate. This time it sounds more official, so hopefully,,, plus this time there's also the 91E amp. Apparently their tooled up, using the old (refurbished??) tooling with some new production techniques. Cathode material is said to be from an original old melt. IIRC, the last time they did a release of 300B's was in the late 90's. They've given a price of around $1,250 for a matched duet. Hopefully it comes to fruition. Cheers
