Bridge height

^^^ Yeah, what he said.
Then you can align the strings perfectly over the polepieces, and cut new slots.
Just make sure you keep the radius of the neck. Don't grind the saddles all flat even, keep em stepped.

Understand.

and by the way im now pro wood worker and i just used a couple nice Irwin clamps when glueing the necks in.the neck pockets on the precision kits are tight and they only fit in there one way kinda deal.

My slab had a 2° angle and it wasn't enough. Spooked me to the point that I am going to do 2.5° on the modified V.

99.9% sure I have a good result with the bridge.
I seriously considered DonP's suggestion that was backed up by Hackmaster in post #17 & #18. I backed away from that approach as not only were the 6 slots involved bit the 6 countersunk receivers for the pointed ends of the intonation screws.
Decided to gently reduce from the bottom and now for the first time I'm adjusting the bridge upward in search for that sweet action :-)

Photo in post #1 has a step, now gone and bridge sitting about 1 mm lower.

A TRIUMPHant Mr. Gasket starts the new year with a WIN!!

Nice save. Great info in this thread, as in others the whole setup relationship need be considered.

That'll never work. I think you'll have real issues down the road.

....

Just kidding, Gasket. You were getting so many compliments, I figured I had to step in and keep it from going to your head!

I actually did the same thing to a Wilkinson roller bridge that I put in my '74 SG. I didn't file down the whole underside. Just the end where it contacts the post. Same basic idea, though.

Nice, invisible fix!

I've now reworked the nut, tweaked the rod and set the bridge, feels good.
Other than cosmetics (working a plan there) it's let by pots etc, so I just pulled the trigger on this ....

I know it's the lazy out but by the time I get the bits together and solder it all up the ready made push pull kit from The States will be here.

That'll be a ton of fun fishing all that thru the pickup & F holes.
Will also be completely worth it once finished.
Great price on that harness kit too.

I'm happy but price blew out.
Add $40 post then convert to Aust $.
All up Aust $143.55.

Just got a private email from the Florida Mafia saying buy it, so Mr Big approves. LOL.

Well done Gasket.

I seriously DOUBT the bridge fail due to being "structurally compromised" or what have you--- simple quick cheap fix....... Well Done I say ---

YOu SIr are studying at the Hackmasters Dojo ;)

say is that the bridge they sent ya with the kit ?? might try a nice Gotoh metric bridge.might have lower saddles. be a gotoh metric nashville style.good stuff for not alot of money.that bridge looks like ones on Epiphones.just sayin

I now have two from PitBull. Both the same other than, original is gold with 12 string string slots, this one chrome and six.
The action is now as I want it so won't be changing it any time soon.

Today postman delivered ...

I didn't let the grass grow under my feet. Soldering 10 wires from the Duncan humbuckers onto the stacked push pull pots was harder than building the original kit but got there.

Mrs Gasket gave it a good workout before I reassembled. Actually easier to get in than the original as the 920D people use some slightly stiff wire and it ALMOST held shape and easy to fish the shafts out.

I now have to decide on a new headstock shape, tuners, colour, tidy the visible wires and 4 new knobs.
AND the most important thing ... HOW DOES IT PLAY AND SOUND?
After a very short run I'm stoked. Great lineal control on all 4 knobs from 0 to 10.
Push pull volume knobs, pickup taping, a little thin pulled out after the full body in position.
Push pull in and out of phase on tone controls, I like it.
I have a good feeling I have a funny thrown together inexpensive guitar that will impress people if they don't actually look at it :D

That's tidy. How easy was it to fiddle the new longer pots+switches through the f-hole?

Each part just has enough room to pass through the F-hole at the widest (middle) point. By inserting in correct order and slowly working each part towards it's respective hole while still inserting the following pots it wasn't all that hard. I use a rubber band on the neck tone pot shaft and a wire hook to pull the pot to its hole. The others I can guide to location with one finger. Actually the larger push pull pots are easier to fit than the normal ones as the smaller ones want to roll about once within the body. This is the 3rd time I've fitted a harness to this guitar and like most jobs the more you do it the more familiar it becomes.

This is the original harness I made a year ago coming out today. The one that went in from 920D had slightly stiffer wire and allowed better control.

Nice work.what was you meaning about changing the head stock shape ?

This guitar started it's life as a 12 string.
Just now it has 12 tuners, half of them with strings.
I'm thinking if 6 holes have to be plugged and the headstock reduced in size then I may as well become a bit creative. Haven't decided exactly what to do with it yet as getting it feeling and sounding sweet was first step.
I'm open to suggestions?

I'd put the other six strings back on. I reckon that would be a wicked 12-string.
